BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY - TRADE AND INVESTMENT
The British High Commission has a six-month voluntary internship opportunity in its Trade and Investment Department (UKTI) beginning 15 April 2013.
UKTI is the United Kingdom Government’s international business development agency. The UKTI team in Tanzania is charged with promoting trade development between the UK and Tanzania, assisting Tanzanian companies looking to set up operations or expand in the UK and alerting and informing British businesses about opportunities in Tanzania. The team also contributes to Her Majesty’s Government’s work on the Prosperity agenda through providing high quality advice and analysis regarding the business environment and commercial potential.
The successful candidate will be part of the local UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) team. S/he will be expected to support UK-Tanzania trade development, by providing administrative assistance to the Head of UKTI Tanzania and the Trade Officer.
This is a great opportunity to work in an exciting and fast-paced and environment on a high profile agenda within the British High Commission. The UKTI Intern will be a highly motivated individual, have good communication skills, be well organised and have excellent attention to detail.

Main Responsibilities:
As this is a voluntary internship (unpaid post), the British High Commission will not be offering any financial incentives, nor offering any guarantee of employment once the six month internship period is over.

Main Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to the Trade Officer and the Head of UKTI Tanzania.
- Undertake market research on behalf of UK companies interested in doing business in and with Tanzania by working closely alongside the Trade Officer.
- Assist with the planning and execution of international trade missions, industry focused seminars and other events to promote the UK.
- Compile visit programs on behalf of UK companies and UKTI team members.
- Gather local market information on business opportunities which are open to international bidding and share the relevant information with interested UK companies.
- Regularly update and manage a database of key contacts in the industry and ensure accurate record keeping.
- The ideal candidate will have a degree / diploma, or will be a student majoring in Business or International Relations.
- Understanding of international / regional / Tanzanian trade and investment issues
- Knowledge of UK and Tanzanian domestic / foreign affairs is desirable.
- Fluency in English both written and verbal is essential
- Excellent research and report writing skills
- Ability to prioritise, effectively manage and execute multiple tasks to a high standard, both through individual and team delivery
- Attention to detail and good follow up discipline
- Ability to excel in a collaborative team environment
- Strength in MS Office, Excel, and Outlook; proven online research skills.
