North Mara Gold Mine Gold Plant Manager


Description

The objective of this position is to provide overall leadership, management and technical expertise in all areas of the processing function including the optimisation of the Life of Mine (LOM) plan, to ensure timely and cost effective processing of mined ore in accordance with BGML business plan, objectives, safety targets and other related standards. This includes ensuring the LOM reserves are metallurgically defined, and the process plant is prepared to process tonnes and grade as defined in the LOM plan. Ensure the annual Process Plant budget is achieved.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure effective communication systems are in place to allow employees to ask questions and receive information.  Create an atmosphere where employees feel comfortable asking questions and their involvement empowers them.  This includes effective regular crew meeting, effective notice boards, and contribution to the weekly newsletter. 
  • Ensure an effective training and development program is in place for Process Plant personnel to develop their skills and get a higher level of compensation based on having higher skills and making a larger contribution.
  • Ensure employee evaluations are completed at least semi-annually providing constructive discussion between employees and supervisors.  This process is to ensure employees are supported in their development, and are provided with fair and honest feedback on their performance, including where they are performing well and where they need to improve.  The employee evaluation process is to be used to identify high potential employees who can take on a larger role, and improve low performing employees.
  • Create a culture whereby employees have pride and ownership of their workplaces resulting in very high housekeeping standards.  Poor housekeeping standards are not accepted and immediately dealt with through discipline.
  • Create a culture of cost awareness and fiscal responsibility, and support that culture to achieve cost reductions.  This includes a monthly review of costs.  Ensure the annual budgeted cost is managed.
  • Empower a culture of Continuous Improvement within the workforce, where employees are engaged in their jobs and work together to implement improvements for the betterment of the employees and the business.  Ensure there is recognition of successful implementation of valuable ideas.
  • Foster a culture of Teamwork where all employees work together and share their skills for the betterment of the team.
  • Ensure an appropriate Process Plant structure is in place to ensure the plant is operated at the required throughput and performance.  This is to be developed with consideration that labour is the largest cost at North Mara, thus labour efficiency and reduction of expatriate labour is critical to a successful long term operation.
  • Ensure all employees have a defined job description, which they have read and understand, and they have a clear understanding what is expected of them to be considered successful in their position.
  • Ensure quality personnel are recruited in a timely manner to fill any vacancies within the organizational structure.
  • Demonstrate leadership to the team as an exemplary employee who is professional, stable, positive, demonstrates teamwork, considerate of others, decisive, punctual, acts as an owner of the company, and is beyond reproach.
  • Ensure accurate employee time and attendance records are maintained and it can be demonstrated that all employees are working the required hours.  Any deviations such as AWOL’s, sick days, or late arrivals are dealt with according to the company policies.
  • Communicate Process Plant objectives and performance against objectives on a regular basis.  Ensure the full team is aligned on the priority of these objectives.  This includes posting a high level summary of monthly performance against objectives on notice boards within the work areas.
  • Maintain an accurate Organizational Chart for the Process Plant, and ensure it is posted on notice boards within the work areas.
  • Ensure the metal accounting and reconciliation process is robust, well documented, and the process is followed to ensure SOX compliance.
  • Ensure Cyanide Code Compliance standards are maintained within the operation.
  • Ensure the Tailings dam is operated as per the engineered and approved design to minimize environmental risks.
  • Identify Capital projects which can add value to the business, and then support the implementation of such projects to ensure successful improvements.
  • Ensure effective security standards and systems are in place to minimize risk of product loss within the Process Plant.  This includes creating high security awareness and ensuring any security breeches are dealt with maximum severity. Ensure the Corporate Gold Security Standard is adhered to.
  • Manage the bullion shipment process to ensure effective systems and controls are in place to minimize security risks, all legal requirements are followed, and forecasted sales are communicated with all parties.
  • Manage the concentrate shipping process to ensure effective systems and controls are in place to minimize security risks, all legal requirements are followed, and customers are fully informed of the production and shipping status.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with concentrate customers to ensure a market is maintained for North Mara concentrate.  Work with Corporate specialists to ensure concentrate contracts are in place, and these contracts are market competitive.  Ensure maximum value is obtained for the business through optimizing Process Plant performance with concentrate contracts.
  • Ensure the annual Process Plant budget is achieved.
  • Complete annual and LOM budgets.
Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Mine General Manager.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:                                                                                                       
-  Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
-  Advanced management qualifications will be well regarded.
Experience Requirements:
-Minimum of 8 years sound experience in Process Plant Operations.
-Minimum of 2 years sound experience at a Process Manager level.
-Experience in sulphide flotation.
-Experience in concentrate sales.
Experience in gold Carbon In Leach.
