Overview
The Mechanical Area Supt reports directly to the Construction Manager for the Sentinel Project. The position is based in Kalumbila, Zambia and is a rotation based position. The primary focus is to provide construction execution expertise in the planning and execution of all Mechanical Equipment works for the plant areas and to manage local labor and TCN skilled manpower to successfully construct the Sentinel Project safely, on time and on budget.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Direct hire Project Engineers, Superintendents and their staff including;
- Area Field Engineers
- Millwright Foremen
- Area Mechanical Superintendent
- Area Civil Foremen
- Leads by example at all times and contributes to a positive team atmosphere by performance and leadership on site.
- Provides detailed manpower and equipment loaded schedules with clear objectives for production.
- Provides accurate records of work progress in daily reporting for all areas under his direct control.
- Possesses the ability to communicate using Excel, Word, Email systems and other software required in the performance and reporting of his duties.
- Develops the overall execution plan for the site with the assistance of his team and is accountable for Safety, budget, schedule, quality and performance of his team.
- Is responsible to set the tone and behaviors to maintain the Safety goals of the company.
- Is responsible to maintain development of daily, weekly and monthly reports for issue to Sr. Management.
- Contributes to daily and weekly staff meetings as required to maintain planned area progress.
- Is responsive to the management and craft teams under his control to develop corrective solutions and service project needs as required.
- Able to plan ahead and forecast work schedules, construction opportunities, recommend the delivery of equipment and materials to optimize field performance, costs and schedule demands.
- Manages costs by optimizing use of consumables, materials, equipment and labor in the execution of all phases of work.
- Works closely with his team to enable successful exchange of ideas for improvement and suggests improvement for the benefit of the Project.

Experience / Education
Engineering Degree/Diploma in Mechanical field is required.
Minimum of 10 - 15 years’ experience in the construction of mining projects, heavy mechanical and process projects. Primarily initial setting out, receiving and handling of heavy mining process equipment including, grinding, crushing, ball and sag mill equipment, flotation and thickening process circuits, conveyor systems and piping systems. Candidate will have experience in millwright works, setting of critical sole plates, bearing surface preparations, machine works, anchor bolt placement and preparations prior to concrete placement, high strength grouting practices and equipment commissioning testing and transition to operations. The Area CM will be experienced in the optimization of labor, equipment, tool requirements, consumable requirements, initial lubricant charging and be familiar with manufacturer’s recommendations for warranty compliant equipment construction and assembly. Knowledge of scheduling, man-hour requirements, material handling, safe work practices, ability to manage multiple diverse teams and work fronts, setting out of new work, survey crew management, managing placement of heavy lifts for assembly, QA/QC resources and equipment, calibration, testing and turn over to operations is required
