Description GSMA – MDI Sector Specialist Role • Reporting to the MDI Senior Manager, support overall delivery of the MDI programme including online, offline, analytical, logistical, strategic, and business development activities. • Create research, public presentations, and articles around the business models, investment strategies, innovative financial vehicles and other opportunities emerging in the M4D sector. • Provide support to the management of the community in the newly created Investors Hub, understand community wants and needs to support the product team in the design, launch, and maintenance of online community. • Work with Community Manager to map out a plan for offline engagement of the Investor Hub community including planning of events, monitoring for investment and partnership opportunities, facilitating focused training and introductions. • Support the creation and management of a Thought Leadership Fund, including competitive processes, review and governance structures, monitoring and reporting guidelines, accounting procedures, and portfolio level evaluation. • Strategic review of current grants landscape in M4D sector and understanding of gaps and a framework for prioritisation. • Support in the management of MDI financing, including relationships with existing funding organisations, tracking programme finances, future planning for building revenue streams and fund raising. • Input and support into the MDI research agenda, create reports, case studies, and analytical articles based on both quantitative and qualitative analysis within assigned M4D topic areas. • Present to the wider GSMA, provide training through webinars, and speak at conferences and other public events about the MDI programme and specific research areas. • Travel to visit MDI stakeholders to present as well as assess needs for future research agenda, site visits to M4D service provides to research case studies • Planning and supporting MDI hosted events, including logistics, marketing, agenda, and budget. | ||
Context GSMA – Research & Intelligence The Research & Intelligence team provides data, analysis and insight to teams within the GSMA, our members and wider industry stakeholders. A centralised analyst team provides strategic and analytical support across the organization and develops our reputation as a powerful source of intelligence for the mobile industry. This team maintains and develops two mobile industry data driven websites at present. Wireless Intelligence is a subscription based product providing the definitive source of mobile operator data, analysis and forecasts, delivering the most accurate and complete set of industry metrics available. Wireless Intelligence is relied on by a customer base of over 800 of the world's leading mobile operators, device vendors, equipment manufacturers and financial and consultancy firms, the data set is the most scrutinised in the industry. Mobile and Development Intelligence is data driven website specifically for the developing world mobile industry. Through an open access portal, MDI offers offer data and analysis to support business decision-making and clarify the evidence of the socio-economic impact of the mobile industry in the developing world. The MDI team serve as thought leaders for the Mobile for Development sector through analysis that is presented on the site, in publications, and presentations throughout the world. Criteria Criteria for Selection • Experience in investing and/or fund raising, business design, due diligence, and working in developing world economies, preferably in technology. • Experience in project management including budget tracking, setting objectives, monitoring progress, and reporting both internally and externally. • Proven ability to implement strategies for a highly complex programme, spanning international, political and technological work streams. • Experience of working within the mobile telecoms industry or international development sector is desirable • Experience of working as an entrepreneur or within a start-up environment either in or focused on developing world markets is preferred • Excellent and demonstrable ability to leverage data and translate analysis into actionable recommendations in a business or programme management setting. • Demonstrated experience with knowledge management and diffusion of knowledge, new approaches, and tools • Work experience in areas such as programmatic monitoring and evaluation (M&E), operations or applied research, and/or capacity building in M&E within a developing country context • Strong communication & presentation skills • Demonstrated experience with marketing, branding, and social marketing campaigns, is desirable • Excellent relationship management skills at an executive level • Cross industry experience: mobile, development, NGO, political • A self starter; highly motivated to develop the programme and drive it through to completion • An existing network within the respective industries is a plus • Broad familiarity of telecoms with an solid understanding of industry trends • Highly consultative with a demonstrable ability to translate customer problems/requirements into team led research and analysis projects • Fluent English, both spoken and written | ||
