Developing a Patient and Clinician Safety Curriculum for the Training of Nurses at Moi University and the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital

Title of Consultancy:

Developing a Patient and Clinician Safety Curriculum for the Training of Nurses at Moi University and the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

General Objectives:

To develop a patient and clinician safety curriculum and modules for the training of Nurses at MTRH, the MTRH School of Nursing, and at the Moi University school of Nursing (MUSON).

Prepare a patient and clinician safety curriculum for both BScN, and KRCHN Nursing students at Moi University and MTRH schools of Nursing.
In collaboration with GIZ/B. Braun PPP, prepare training modules, providing for the content to be used in offering the patient and clinician safety training programme.

In collaboration with a team from MTRH, the MTRH school of Nursing, and MUSON:-

Propose an integration plan for the developed modules into specific courses (currently on offer), to be taken by both cadres of students and to Nurses working at MTRH.

Design a generic clinical schedule, to be used during practical sessions.

Design an evaluation framework, allowing for both theoretical and practical assessments, of the specific modules, within the broader institutional courses.


Deliverables:

Patient and Clinician safety curriculum for both BScN & KRCHN student groups.

Patient and Clinician safety training modules for BScN & KRCHN student groups.

A training schedule with details on course units/ weighting, how the modules will be delivered and examined/evaluated, within the normal coursework for both student categories for semesters/blocks within year 2013.

A generic clinical rotations and evaluation framework schedule for student nurses within both institutions, linked to the module delivery schedule.

Draft proposal on integration of patient and clinician safety modules into curriculum of  MTRH, MTRH School of Nursing, and MUSON

Scope of Work:

The consultant will be expected to undertake the following tasks;

In collaboration with MUSON, MTRH & B. Braun Melsungen AG., develop a Patient and Clinician Safety curriculum for BScN & KRCHN student nurse cadres.

In collaboration with MUSON, B. Braun Melsungen AG., MTRH School of Nursing & MTRH develop training modules to be used during delivery of the Clinician & Patient Safety training programme.

Develop a clinician & patient safety training schedule, Intergrated within normal coursework for both student categories for semesters within the 2013 year.

In Collaboration with MUSON, MTRH & MTRH School of nursing, develop a clinical rotations and evaluation framework for both student cadres, linked to the training schedule.

Time frame:

The assignment is expected to take a maximum of 30 days, including travel days to Eldoret.

Expected Profile of Consultant:

The potential consultant should have a basic degree in health sciences and a master’s degree in the areas of Medical Education and/or health related curriculum development. He/she should have demonstrated experience in carrying out curriculum development work within the Nursing Sciences or general medical related education. A PhD in Medical Education will serve as an added advantage.

Submission of application:

The application should contain both technical and financial proposals, sealed separately.

The technical proposal should cover the following elements: Interpretation of objectives
Methodology
Deliverables
Reporting and
A concise description of relevant consultancies undertaken with 1 sample report.

The financial proposal should have a budget that clearly links the outputs to the budgeted costs.
