PSI and its local affiliate SFH, seeks an expert for the role of Communication and Advocacy Technical Advisor to support the implementation of the Zambian National First 1000 Most Critical Days Program. The selected Technical Advisor will work with SFH to provide technical assistance to the National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) and key departments in the Ministry of Health to enable the smooth implementation of the national plan. The TA will work to build the capacity of range of actors including members of the NFNC, Ministries within the Government of Zambia, District Health Authorities and local non-governmental organizations. The position is based in Lusaka and reports to the Country Representative. * This position is contingent upon funding.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with NFNC to develop an effective and appropriate communication and advocacy strategy to ensure acceptance, promotion, prioritisation and outreach of the First 1000 Most Critical Days Programme among key stakeholders, including policy makers, service providers, caregivers and intended beneficiaries.
• Build the capacity of NFNC, Ministries within the Government of Zambia, District Health Authorities and local non-governmental organizations to effectively deliver the communication and advocacy strategy.
• Provide support to NFNC in the design of an evidence-based communication and advocacy plan to generate greater leadership and operational commitment, better cross-sector collaboration and participation, and greater levels of resource commitment from both the Government and development partners.
• Provide technical support in the planning and execution of a nationwide campaign to promote the Zambian National First 1000 Most Critical Days Program.
• Work closely with NFCN, Ministries within the Government of Zambia, District Health Authorities and local non-governmental organizations to systematically draw and communicate project learning.
• Support the development of logframes and workplans in line with national priorities and objectives outlined in the First 1000 Most Critical Days Program using international best practices.
• Support the Fund management team to develop and support the implementation of the fund’s communication plan.
• Represent and position PSI and SFH at global and country level Nutrition fora to build partnerships with established actors and strengthen overall nutrition programming.
QUALIFICATIONS: • MA, MPH or PhD in Communication, public health, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of professional experience in communication and advocacy work in public health in developing countries – communication and advocacy experience in nutrition is desirable.
• Demonstrable experience in building the capacity of government ministries in the development and implementation of national strategies.
• Established international reputation in the areas of Communication and Advocacy.
• Experience working with Child Survival donors, particularly European based donors.
• Ability to train and develop capacity of regional and country-level staff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively work with decision makers to generate actionable strategy.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in English is required.
• Zambian or Southern African candidates preferred but international candidates also welcome.
