Pharmacist
LocatIon: Mwanza
PositIon Summary:
To oversee the effective procurement, storage and distribution of medications through the clinic and other associated sites, and provide medication information to both clinicians, pharmacy staff and patients/guardians as needed
Duties and Responsibilities
. ProvIde efficient management of the Baylor – Tanzania pharmacy to enable the clinic to achieve its
objectives
• Liaise with other clinics, partner organizations and personnel to support the efficient management of the Baylor-Tanzania pharmacy
• Oversee and supervise the dispensing of drugs to patients to ensure rational use of drugs
• Participate in patient counseling on side effects, dietary requirements, drug interactions and importance of adhering to drug regimes as needed
• Generate drug needs and provide itmely forecasting of all medications, Including antiretroviral (ARV) medications, lo the Site Director
. Regularly monitor drug stores to ensure the appropriate storage environment for all medications
• Collaboratively identify with relevant government and partner organizations possible suppliers of
medications, including buffer-stocks of medications typically available through the national system, and
make recommendations to the Site Director regarding suitablešupphes
• Verify selected suppliers of drugs to ensure they meet with donor requirements and quality standards
• Ensure proper patients and drug records are kept at all bines
• Monitor drug stock in order lo prevent štock outs and loss through expiry, damage and theft
• Conduct quarterly and random spot-check pharmacy stock audits to ensure that the physical stock tallies with the stock as reported on the stock cards
• Prepare monthly and quarterly pharmacy reports and as necessary/needed
. Provide training and/or education on the latest prescribing guidelines for ARVs and other medications in line with good clinical practice ‘
Periodically participate In mentorship activities at outreach facilities
. Inform clinicians of the drugs that are available for prescribing
. Provide medication prescribing and dispensing support and recommendafions, including ARV medications, to clinicians and dispensers as needed
. Supervise the Baylor – Tanzania technicians/dispensers to oversee the effective distribution of antiretroviral medications and other drugs through the dinic and zonai supported sites
. Appraise lire perlormance of the technicians/dispensers at least twice in a year and provide a report to the Site Director and relevant staff
. Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor or – as may be required from time lo time.
Qualifications:
1. BSc. in Pharmacy from a recognized institution and a minimum of 3 years of experience
2. Working experience with pediatric prescribing and pharmacy management is an added advantage
3. Experience in ARV treatment prescribing and patient management; .
4. Registered with the Pharmacy Council .
5. Excellent management and verbal communication skits in both English and Kiswahïi,
