ACT Alliance is a global alliance of church and church-related organizations that work in humanitarian assistance and development. The 135 members of the alliance work in 140 countries, making ACT one of the largest global humanitarian and development alliances. ACT has a small secretariat based in Geneva, Switzerland, which has the following vacancy:
Head of communications
The ACT Secretariat seeks an innovative and resourceful communicator/manager to lead a small communications team who has the responsibility for improving ACT’s visibility among key audiences through strong and effective internal and external communications. S/he will work closely with member organizations to develop and implement the communication strategy for the alliance.
Key roles: • Responsible for all internal and external media engagement and publications (including writing and editing). • Develop internal and external media strategies (including online media, newsletters, press releases etc.). • Implement dissemination of ACT news to members and develop new communcation mechanisms. • Develop internal and corporate communication; promote the ACT brand through appropriate strategies. • Build and maintain relations with communication staff of ACT members and other ecumenical organizations.
Profile: • Relevant university qualifications (Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent) • 8 - 10 years proven success in an international development and humanitarian, communications-related field, preferably with a global alliance. • Natural leadership characteristics, skilled at working across multiple and multicultural organizations to build and lead teamwork to achieve results. • An enthusiastic, can-do attitude; a problem solver able to work autonomously; comfortable with strategic planning as well as implementing the details. • A creative out-of-the-box thinking that drives measurable results. • High energy and sense of urgency, capable of working under tight deadlines. • Excellent writing and communication skills. • Ability to work in a flexible, collaborative and collegial way within a multicultural environment. • A strong understanding of issues regarding branding and marketing. • Demonstrated competency in the field of new media and internet technologies. • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time even on short notice.
The working language of the Secretariat is English; a high level of proficiency is required. Additional proficiency in Spanish or French would be a plus.
