St Jude’s, in Arusha, Tanzania, is staffed by dedicated local teachers and non-academic personnel who are supported and mentored by a team of committed international volunteers. All staff members are fighting poverty through education as they work to ensure that our 1600 students from the lowest socio-economic backgrounds receive free, high-quality education in this sponsorship-supported English medium charity school.

We are currently looking for Teacher Mentors who can work alongside Heads of Department in the following subjects areas for 2013.
- Maths
- Languages
- Business Studies / Economics
- Social Studies
Successful applicants will have the privilege of working with educators who are being challenged to teach skills and understandings within a very knowledge based curriculum using contemporary teaching methodologies. A minimum of one year commitment is required.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Education or equivalent from an accredited university
- At least 10 years of classroom teaching experience in student-centred classrooms in more than one curriculum framework
- Previous experience of working as a Mentor, Team Leader or Head of Department
- Recent experience with and interest in curriculum writing, development and implementation
- A willingness to work collaboratively with other mentors, the teachers and leaders, preferably for at least a year but shorter periods will be considered
- An ability to demonstrate and work patiently, flexibly, independently, reflectively and with a focus on on-going teacher education to promote quality student learning.
Skills:
- An ability to work flexibly, with patience, reflection, independence and with a focus on continuous teacher education to promote quality student learning
- An ability to model good practice in all aspects of teaching
- An ability to work alongside a team of local educators and other mentors
- Integrity, open-mindedness and adaptability necessary to live and work in a developing country
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills
Stipend:
