Health Plans Program Manager PharmAccess Foundation - Nairobi
PharmAccess is the implementing partner of the Health Insurance Fund which is a foundation based in the Netherlands that supports private health insurance to low-income groups in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2006, the Fund received a 100 million euro grant from the Dutch government to set up community health insurance schemes in four countries in Africa.
Since 2007, PAI has initiated 2 insurance schemes in Kenya, with over 10,000 people enrolled through our local implementing partners, AAR and Africa Medilink. Our enrollees can access care at a provider network of 12 clinics, which are frequently monitored on quality. PharmAccess will be expanding the scope of its insurance and demand-side financing activities in Kenya.
The organization therefore seeks to recruit a Health Plans Program Manager for the Kenya office.
The Health Plans Program Manager will report to the Director Operations Health Insurance in Amsterdam.
The main tasks of the Program Manager will be to:
- Act as a member of the local PharmAccess country management team
- Lead the PharmAccess Health Plans/Insurance team in Kenya
- Oversee the implementation of the Health Insurance Programs in Kenya, including scheme management, marketing and research, facility upgrades and quality assurance
- Collaborate with AAR, Africa Medilink and other in-country stakeholders and implementers
- Represent PharmAccess on insurance topics
- Support the PharmAccess Country Representative in business development and stakeholder initiatives in both the private and the public domain
- Prepare management reports both internally and for external third party financers
Desired Skills & Experience
- A minimum of ten years work experience in the financial services industry (insurance, banking, financial institutions)
- Experience working in (health) insurance in Kenya or other Sub Saharan countries is required
- Experience working abroad or in an international environment for at least 3 years
- Strong understanding of the mechanics of primary insurance distribution channels and knowledge of current developments and innovations
- Strong project management and managerial skills - result driven and able to lead and stimulate a diverse group of ambitious colleagues and partners
- Strong analytical and writing skills - data analyses and interpretation, managing budgets and clear and accurate reporting
- Excellent communication skills, ability to interact within an environment with multiple stakeholders and people that originate from different cultures.
- Solid level of knowledge of MS Office software, specifically Word, Powerpoint and Excel
- Suitable candidates will require a relevant Master’s degree or MBA.
