Textile Sector Specialist, Ethiopia
ASI is seeking a Textile Sector Specialist for a DFID funded Private Enterprise Programme in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This programme aims to support private sector development by: (1) improving firms’ access to finance (the “access to finance” pillar) and (2) addressing market and government failures in identified priority sectors – horticulture, leather/livestock and textiles. This position is contingent upon ASI being awarded a contract.
Under the supervision of the Priority Sector Development Component Leader, the Textile Sector Specialist will be responsible for designing and implementing textile sector interventions. Coordination with government counterparts, implementing partners, regional offices and local producers is a critical function of this role.
Responsibilities:
• Support textile sector modernization and value chain development by identifying and developing new market opportunities, upgrading high-potential textile value chains, building market linkages, supporting producers to meet new market requirements, and improving the textile policy/enabling environment.
• Provide technical support to value chain actors and potential actors in achieving value chain development goals.
• Design value chain upgrading strategies, addressing production, post-production, processing and marketing priorities.
• Work with regional value chain networks, assist in the identification of value chain upgrading opportunities, partnerships and other opportunities.
• Provide quality control and timeliness of all value chain deliverables.
• Contribute to the overall success of the programme by identifying and enhancing effective demand for financing throughout textile value chains.
Qualifications:
• BA/BS in relevant technical field with 10 years of experience.
• A minimum of ten years of experience in the cultural practices, handling, operations, value chain and marketing of textiles in Ethiopia
• Ability to diagnose a discrete value chain and work with relevant actors along the value chain to improve production, access finance and increase market share and profitability
• Amharic and fluency in spoken and good written English is mandatory.
