Communication & Learning Coordinator - Oxfam, Uganda

Oxfam is committed to ridding the world of poverty. We have a conviction that people are capable lifting themselves out of poverty and that building capacity to adapt to shocks, changes and uncertainty improves the chance to do so. The Africa Climate Change Resilience Alliance (ACCRA) works across Mozambique, Ethiopia and Uganda to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable people are supported to adapt positively to the potential negative impacts of change, such as in the climate. We want to see people becoming more resilient to potential disaster risks, to be proactive in responding to uncertainty and thereby have greater potential for sustainable livelihoods in spite of the shocks and changes they face. The programme aims to support Government and civil society in increasing communities’ adaptive “capacity by improving their own programming and decision making. ACCRA works as a global alliance to help bring this change about. ACCRA is an alliance made up of Oxfam GB, the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Save the Children Alliance, Care International and World Vision International and funded by DFID. We act as proponents of change with and for the communities in Africa we serve. Communication & Learning Coordinator  Based in the ACCRA project In Kampala – Fixed term March 2014 The Role To deliver excellent learning and communications work to help the team deliver the change we want to see in people’s lives. This will involve designing and implementing a learning and communications strategy in partnership with the team and key stakeholders. The role will be to capture and translate ACCRA research findings into accessible learning products, ensuring and reporting on their wider use. The Coordinator will produce clear and simple ACCRA communications products; linking with consortium members to maximise impact by 2014. Particular attention will be paid to managing and developing the ACCRA website and content, production of case studies and promoting discussion and learning.

Requirement: The person will have excellent project management skills in complex projects, and familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes. They will demonstrate sound knowledge of electronic and print communications and demonstrable understanding of team working, interpersonal awareness and proven ability to work in diverse teams with a variety of stakeholders across diverse cultural contexts. The person will also have experience of developing and implementing successful communications strategies and a creative and innovative approach to communications, expertise in various software programmes, including use of Web 2.0. They will have excellent communications skills, with fluent written and spoken English
