Description of Internship:
The Campaign and Research Intern works closely with the Nairobi Director, and is responsible for managing office systems, logistics, campaigns while offering advocacy and research assistance to the Nairobi Director and other staff of Crisis Action.
The work involves a range of duties including:
o Research assistance: May include but is not limited to gathering information on potential partners, country positions, topical expert opinions, and on individual conflicts, emerging crisis, prompting early warning responses and research and analysis of Government policies
o Advocacy: Coordination of agreed partner action plans on advocacy strategies, sharing information and analysis between partners and Crisis Action staff, drafting key advocacy tools as suggested by the Nairobi Director and evaluation of the effectiveness of joint responses to crises.
o Media: Organizing closed door media sessions, pitching stories and reviewing current news.
o Campaigning: Organizing events, partner outreach and public mobilization.
o Administrative and organizational duties: Assist the Office Manager with:
Arranging travel for the Nairobi Director, guests and participants;
Organizing meetings and conferences with partners, donors, media e.t.c;
Coordinating conference calls and note taking;
Other logistical tasks.
o Perform other professional duties assigned by the Nairobi Director.
Current conflict priorities for Crisis Action-Nairobi are focused on the Sudan border crisis of South Kordofan and Blue Nile. Crisis Action also monitors ongoing emergencies and could engage in new emergency-response advocacy.
You will have the opportunity to learn about global conflicts and interact with high-level policy makers and top-tier NGO partners.
We are looking for an intern who is available to work in a full-time capacity for a maximum period of six months. The successful intern will be required to commit to a full-time period of six months as this time length will offer interns the best opportunity to immerse themselves in the organisation’s work and gain the most valuable experience.
Requirements:
o The candidate must have excellent organizational skills, be a good communicator with sound political judgment. He or she must be self-motivated, possess considerable initiative and be able to multi task.
o Excellent administrative and computer/technology skills and Microsoft Office proficiency are vital. He or she must be able to prioritize with minimal supervision and to work independently.
o A degree in politics, international relations or a similar field and/or related experience is preferred. Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of the African Union (AU) would be an asset.
o Prior permission to work in Kenya will be required for all non-Kenyan citizens. Kindly do not apply if you do not have permission to work in Kenya.
