The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance — International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. Its objective is to strengthen democratic institutions and processes. International IDEA acts as a catalyst for democracy building by providing knowledge resources, policy proposals and supporting democratic reforms in response to specific national requests. It works together with policy makers, governments, UN organizations and agencies and regional organizations engaged in the field of democracy building.
International IDEA’s notable areas of expertise are: electoral processes, political parties, constitution-building processes, democracy and gender and democracy assessments. International IDEA works worldwide. It is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and has offices in Brussels, New York, Latin America, Africa and Asia.
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, CONSTITUTION BUILDING PROCESSES
Main functions of the post:
Programmatic Leadership and Resource Management of the Constitution Building Project;
Representation of the Constitution Building Project to enhance positive and effective relations with the project partners, donors, and other relevant organizations.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
University degree (preferably at post graduate level) in law, international relations, public administration, social sciences or any other related studies. A degree or diploma in management will be a considerable asset.
A minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in governance, democracy building, human rights and/or rule of law, including a minimum of 5 years experience in constitution building (if part of that experience is acquired in the field, that would be an asset);
Proven track record of managerial and leadership responsibility;
Management experience in supervising multi-cultural and/or multi-national teams;
Experience in project cycle management;
Proven track record of successfully managed complex national/international projects in areas of governance, democracy building, human rights and/or rule of law.
Functional Competencies:
Ability to maintain and develop an extensive network of professional contacts relating to International IDEA's work in the democracy assistance;
Effective analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas as well as transfer knowledge and skills;
Good sense of initiative, ability to set priorities and work under pressure with accuracy and dedication;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Good negotiation, advocacy and communication skills, including public speaking skills. Ability to manage dialogue/conflict resolution;
Strong understanding of the opportunities presented by Information and communication technologies for global programmes.
Language Skills:
English: Excellent proficiency required
Other: Considered an asset
Terms of Contract:
International Post. Three (3) Year Fixed Term Appointment.
