Department BBC Media Action is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media to advance development worldwide. Our mission is to improve the quality of people’s lives in developing and transitional countries through innovative use of media. We do this through our focus on governance and human rights, health, humanitarian response and resilience. We work in partnerships that include governments, broadcasters, civil society institutions, donor agencies and international Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). BBC Media Action is largely funded by external grants, mainly from the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union, UN agencies and charitable foundations.

You’ll closely support the launch of major new projects to improve political participation, debate and accountability in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Kenya, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, as well as the numerous other projects in our governance portfolio. Working intensively with country teams, you’ll devise new governance and human rights projects and will guide and support our teams to deliver high-impact governance and human rights projects in some of the least developed countries in the world. Playing a key role in BBC Media Action's programme of policy engagement, you’ll represent the organisation externally at major events and meetings as well as developing high-profile policy publications. You will be responsible for forging relationships with major partner organisations, including other NGOs, funding bodies and academic partners, with a view to strengthening our own practice, the media development sector and approaches to improving governance and respect for human rights more broadly. And as expected in a role such as this, we need your strong project management and leadership skills. We need your strong writing skills with attention to detail. You’ll have the capacity to engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders and an aptitude for creating connections across teams, so of course strong interpersonal and communication skills are needed. With this you’ll have the ability to present to large audiences.
