RefugePoint works to fill the critical and unmet needs of people affected by war and conflict who have fallen through the net of humanitarian assistance. This commitment is expressed through targeting individuals, families and groups of people overlooked by existing aid programs. RefugePoint strives to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and to raise awareness for these vulnerable people.
The Resettlement Coordinator position requires a variety of experience in specific areas including drafting of resettlement referrals, conducting and drafting best interest determinations, and conducting review of resettlement casework in a UNHCR capacity. The primary responsibility of the Resettlement Coordinator position is conducting review of highly sensitive case information according to established guidelines. The Officer will be adept at working with detailed information and paying attention to detail, working under deadline, resolving questions in a collaborative manner, and maintaining responsive lines of communication with various levels of management and protection staff. The position will also involve a variety of other duties, as determined by need. Some of the core qualities and characteristics required for the successful fulfilment of the position include:
1.Extensive resettlement experience, including working with resettled refugees in a resettlement country setting and with UNHCR or an NGO on resettlement work in a country of asylum.
2.Excellent English language skills, ability to proofread and edit for accuracy, consistency and thoroughness.
3.Familiarity with issues impacting refugee resettlement processing and refugee resettlement such as, custody and best interest determination guidelines; family composition and placement; application of exclusion and inadmissibility criteria. Ability to analyze and assess the above.
4.Exceptional understanding of the application of refugee law, resettlement criteria, family composition guidelines and issues, procedural child protection mechanisms.
5.Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team to ensure the highest quality case work possible.
6.Maintain secure and accurate client files at all times. Follow procedure rigorously. Ensure data is current and accurate.
7.Work closely with managers to ensure smooth operation of the protection unit as a whole, including scheduling, field work, and follow up on assigned cases.
8.Commitment to transparent and responsive communication; able to sensitively manage complex issues and questions.
9.Knowledge of and adherence to professional ethical obligations in refugee work.
Required qualifications:
1. Kenyan national
2. Degree in law or other advanced degree in a related field (forced migration studies, international relations or humanitarian assistance
3. At least two years professional experience working on refugee protection and resettlement either with an NGO or UNHCR
4. Exceptional English language skills, including spoken and written
5. Secondary relevant language skill (Kiswahili, French or Somali) is an advantage.
