1. Topic: Consultancy Services To Support The Government Of Ethiopia To Develop A Set Of Competency-Based Modular Training Package For Children And Youth
2. Background.
In Ethiopia several organizations over time have been supporting capacity development of children and youth in communication, media and advocacy, both inside and outside of schools, with the objective of equipping them to more effectively use media for self-expression, participation, and advocacy on issues of rights and development. The central school-based strategy implemented by the Ministry of Education for facilitating children’s development of communication, media and advocacy skills has been the establishment and strengthening of mini media clubs in both primary and secondary schools. These clubs have been supported at different times and in one way or another by a number of NGOs, UN agencies, media organizations and other partners.
The overall purpose of the children/youth media strategy is to increase the coverage and strengthen the quality of reporting of children and youth issues and to support capacity development initiatives and structures for children and youth.
3: Objective:
The purpose of the consultancy is to develop a set of competency-based modular training packages and guidelines to facilitate standardization and quality improvement and ensure incremental and sustained skill development in the area of media and advocacy skills of children and youth.
Phase I (4 months: drafting, pre-testing, approval and finalization)
Phase II (2 months) Develop comprehensive work plan and Assessment of Practice and
Requirements.
Expected Deliverables/outputs:
Detailed report on status of Children and Youth Media Training, Production and Dissemination, Completed Package Content Framework with details on competencies and knowledge areas for each target group to be addressed in package and Materials Mapping Matrix with critical summary assessment of each material reviewed.
4. Qualification /Experience of the firm/Team composition required:
The Firm to be contracted should have individuals on the consultancy team with the following profile:
-Individuals with advanced degrees in Journalism, Communication, English.
-Individuals with ten or more years professional experience in media production and dissemination.
-Previous experience developing training-based learning modules.
-Previous experience in human rights based approach, child rights and use of media for advocacy.
-Previous experience in Media training for children, youth, media producers, journalists.
-Individuals with strong verbal and written communication skills both in English and Amharic.
