Salary: £38,164 per annum Location: Vauxhall, London (with international travel)
CARE International’s (CI) revised Humanitarian and Emergency Strategy was approved by the CARE International Board in May 2012. This revised strategy refocuses CARE Internationals humanitarian work to ensure that the specific needs of women and girls are identified and met. CARE International’s emergency sectors (Shelter, WASH, Food Security, Sexual and Reproductive Health) are vehicles for achieving positive impact on the lives of women and girls during humanitarian crises. In line with this CARE International UK (CIUK) is revising its current shelter strategy to ensure alignment with the revised CI strategy.
CARE International UK (CIUK) is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to provide leadership to the Emergency Shelter Team based in London. This position provides opportunity for the post holder to truly ensure that CARE International continues to develop its existing emergency shelter work, and builds the reputation of CARE International as a key actor in the emergency shelter sector.
Key focus of the position is:
• Develop and promote a revised CARE International Shelter strategy ensuring the specific needs of women and girls are a key component of the revised strategy. • Ensuring CARE International Country Offices receive appropriate technical advice and support (both remotely and through deployment of CIUKs shelter team). • Represent CARE International in relevant emergency shelter forums and meetings including with UN agencies, other NGOs, partners, donors and inter-agency working groups. • Manage the CIUK emergency shelter team composed of three staff. • Manage the emergency shelter component of the CARE International Roster for Emergency Deployments in collaboration with human resource colleagues. • Lead on fundraising for CARE International’s Emergency Shelter work, at country office level as well as for the London based team. • Contribute the overall development and growth of the CIUK humanitarian and emergencies team.
Key Skills required include:
• A relevant combination of experience and qualifications (preferably at Postgraduate level) in the Built Environment field. • Proven ability to provide high quality technical advice to humanitarian shelter programmes and preparedness activities in a number of overseas emergency operations. • Demonstrated experience of gender sensitive programming, and of ensuring the needs of women and girls are effectively addressed in humanitarian programmes. • Significant experience of building and leading teams. • Demonstrated skills in developing external relationships with donors, UN and others including developing partnerships, fundraising, negotiation and liaison.
