REPORTS TO: CORPORATE COMMUNICATION OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS
DIRECTORATE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S OFFICE
Purpose of the Job:
To ensure that corporate communications tasks comprising of gathering/writing and editing content for use in internal and external publications, management of NITA-U’s online presence, and event management and protocol are performed efficiently and effectively.
Key Results Area/Accountabilities
1. Event Management
Support the delivery of NITA-U media events such as press conferences, launch events and Press requests through:
Promotion of NITA’s events through the website and other online communication platforms
Ensure appropriate protocol is followed and undertake guest relations for visiting foreign delegations
Administrative and logistical support to the communications team, for initiatives such as; media workshops, activities at NITA-U, launch events etc.
Collate event feedback and evaluation reports
2. Website Administration and Online Media
Writing and editing stories for the NITA-U website, newsletter and social media platforms
Sourcing appropriate material for daily news stories for the NITA-U blog.
Sourcing appropriate content and updating the Government web portal
Devising mechanisms for increasing usage and effectiveness of NITA-U’s website, and social media platforms.
Compiling weekly statistics and social media interaction reports
3. Information management:
• Plan, develop and evaluate methods and processes for gathering, analyzing, interpreting and presenting data and information, particularly concerning ICT issues.
• Plan, coordinate and contribute to the quarterly NITA-U newsletter;
• Organise the photo library;
• Collate press books, magazines and other materials for internal use
• Support to Communication Officer to develop communication tools such as; Press releases, media advisories, speeches, backgrounders etc
• Plan and implement a method of tracking press cuttings.
4. Other Duties: The above is only an outline of the tasks, responsibilities and outcomes required of the role. The management trainee will carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by their line supervisor.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or its equivalent from a recognised University/professional institution.
• A post graduate qualification in a communication field such as advertising and/or desktop publishing is an added advantage.
Skills/Competencies
• Excellent communication skills (perfect verbal and written skills), synthetic minded, highly organised and resourceful
• Good knowledge of the media and publication world.
• Ability to research, establish and maintain relationships with journalists/members/public officials.
• High computer literacy with strong working knowledge of Windows Office Software
• Professional attitude to work appropriate to our clients and organisational ethos and to represent the NITA-U externally.
• Excellent report writing skills;
• Exercising initiative and meet strict deadlines with the ability to prioritise
Experience
• At least three (3) year working experience gained while serving with a reputable public or private commercial or donor funded organization, at a similar level/position.
