Key results expected: Well managed investments in surveillance and special studies that contribute to meeting identified information needs, and timely and credible projections of the impact of future support for vaccination
Main duties/ Responsibilities: To serve as the responsible manager for GAVI’s investments in surveillance and special studies through the Business Plan and work on impact of vaccination in GAVI supported countries
Surveillance • Work closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) to set appropriate deliverables for GAVI’s investments in invasive bacterial disease and rotavirus surveillance and ensure quality and timely delivery • Work closely with WHO to manage progress toward deliverables and adjust efforts and work plans around surveillance as necessary and appropriate
Special Studies • Work closely with the Accelerated Vaccine Introduction (AVI) initiative Special Studies group to set appropriate deliverables and ensure quality and timely delivery • Along with the AVI Special Studies group, guide and advise on mechanisms to identify priority issues to be addressed through targeted studies – this could include formation of expert review groups as well as consultations with various relevant entities • To lead on translation of knowledge generated from surveillance and special studies to help meet defined information needs, including those related to programme design, policy and evaluation of country programmes
Impact Projections • To supervise Programme Officer on the coordination of GAVI Secretariat efforts with partners to: o Project the number of future deaths averted as a result of vaccination in GAVI supported countries o Incorporate projections of reductions in morbidity into GAVI’s impact projections o Document the broader social and economic benefits of vaccination • Supervise Programme Officer on coordination of efforts to keep up to date on the landscape of existing models for impact projections and maintain and document knowledge around these models

Qualifications
Academic: Minimum of a masters degree in public health or equivalent; PhD preferable
Work experience: Minimum ten years relevant experience
Skills/competencies: • Advanced skills in public health research • Advanced skills in infectious disease epidemiology and surveillance of vaccine preventable disease • Advanced skills in impact modelling • Strong organisational and planning skills • Demonstrated capacity to manage consultants, budgets and deliverables • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Demonstrated capacity to manage a variety of activities simultaneously, work within teams and take initiative
Languages: English. French and other languages an asset.
