Imagine Rural Development Initiative (IRDI) Zambia is seeking a consultant to lead, develop and deliver a comprehensive and sustainable business plan for the organisation, including a feasibility study, strategic plan, operational plan, financial plan and marketing plan.
A realistic business plan will allow IRDI to develop and to manage growth, meet medium term priorities and move towards a long term vision for IRDI's role in Zambia. The plan will guide decision making, provide focus and ensure resources are utilised appropriately to
achieve improved and targeted programming and directed growth, both sectorally and geographically.
Scope of work
The consultant will be in charge to facilitate and lead the development of a comprehensive and sustainable business plan for the organization, including a feasibility study, strategic plan, operational plan, financial plan and marketing plan.
The consultant’s work will include:
Collecting agricultural, health and development data on Zambia;
Organizing meetings with government and non-government partners;
Liaising with IRDI staff, partners, program beneficiaries, stakeholders and customers;
Outlining specific projects or ventures of the organisation to diversify revenue-sources;
Researching social enterprise funding opportunities for the organisation;
Researching the market for the products and services of the organisation's social enterprises, investigating the resources needed to provide the products and services, devising implementation and marketing strategies, assessing risk, and determining ways to evaluate success.
Deliverables
The following outputs will be submitted to the President of IRDI by no later than the date stipulated for the end of the assignment:
A comprehensive Feasibility Study, Business Plan, 5-year Strategic Plan and Operational Plan, Financial Plan and Marketing Plan for the organisation and its projects.
Timeline
All work must be completed by January 31, 2012.

Requirements
MBA (strong preference; other graduate degrees will be considered), or comparable experience;
At least 3 years of international NGO field and management experience;
Previous experience in the field of social enterprise;
Knowledge of the health, agricultural and development landscape in Zambia;
Previous experience as a consultant;
Proven ability to facilitate the development of strategic plans;
Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make concrete, actionable recommendations based on data and analysis;
Strong financial analysis skills; knowledge of accounting and financial reporting best practices;
Ability to elicit information from and provide guidance to people with a wide range of cultural backgrounds, training and experience;
experience working with mixed cultures and skill levels;
Enjoy working independently, with some degree of flexibility and ambiguity;
Enjoy working as part of a team, exchanging insights and following up on team members’ input;
Strong communication, leadership and consensus-building skills;
Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and meet multiple deadlines;
Effective written and oral communication in English; well-developed interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, tact and patience;
Strong Word and PowerPoint skills; ability to create well-framed Word and PowerPoint documents;
Strong Excel skills: demonstrated ability to build rigorous yet easy to use financial and operational models in Excel;
Excellent computer skills and competency in online social media;
Ability to drive a vehicle independently (must have valid Zambian or international driver’s license).
