SENIOR MINING ENGINEER
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking to employ an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to be directly responsible for conventional cut & fill (CCF), longhole stoping and mechanised mine development planning, design, scheduling and control of costs.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide professional technical support to ensure layouts and plans are delivered to mine management, the mining department and other service departments in a timely manner.
• Provide supervision and training to Mining Engineers and other support staff in the area to ensure compliance with BGML’s policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement short to medium term plans ensuring budgeted targets are met.
• Help develop training programs and to train Tanzanian Engineers to develop new skills and achieve their full potential.
• Act as a liaison between planning and operations departments coordinating engineering efforts, and ensuring that short term objectives are aligned with medium- and long-term strategies to meet company objectives.
• Assist the Chief Mine Planning Engineer to complete BGML’s employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour.
• Establish Mine2-4D mining engineering standards.
• Identify areas for continuous improvement initiatives.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• BSc Mining Engineering degree from a recognized institution, or equivalent recognized qualification
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum 8 years underground mining experience including at least 5 years experience in a production environment, preferably in precious metals using narrow vein long hole stoping as well as cut & fill and narrow vein conventional mining.
• Experienced in calculating cut off grades and ore reserve estimation and preparation of ore reserve statements compliant with JORC/SAMREC/ Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE)
• Experienced in ramp development, narrow vein longhole stoping, cut & fill and narrow vein conventional mining methods
• Experience with paste backfill systems and in mine ventilation would be advantageous.
• Exposure in the development of short to medium term planning to align with Life of Mine strategies utilizing underground 3D mine design and scheduling software packages
• Thorough knowledge of MineCad (or similar CAD package), Mine 2-4D planning software, EPS scheduling software or equivalent software.
• Strong communication skills both written and oral with the ability to clearly present and discuss schedules and plans with operations personnel.
