We are seeking a Research Fellow with world class knowledge to work on one or more themes within our Humanitarian Policy Group research strategy, focusing particularly on 'Principles, politics and the humanitarian system'.
Our Humanitarian Policy Group (HPG) is one of the world's leading teams of policy researchers and information professionals working on humanitarian issues. It combines high-quality policy analysis with a capacity to act as a neutral forum for dialogue and debate.

- HPG Briefing Paper: Counter-terrorism and humanitarian action
- Disasters journal special issue: States of fragility: stabilisation and its implications for humanitarian action
- HPN's Humanitarian Exchange Magazine: Humanitarian space in Afghanistan and Pakistan
You will join a dynamic team, and will support the Head of HPG in strategy development, fundraising, research and public affairs to drive a multidisciplinary and innovative programme.
About the job:
- Research and policy advisory work: conducting high-quality applied research.
- Public affairs: disseminating and promoting the programme's work and ideas.
- Fundraising: attracting funds through bids and marketing, including the development of a substantial personal research portfolio.
About you
You will have:
- a degree and post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline
- extensive knowledge of humanitarian response programming, particularly principles of humanitarian action and the humanitarian system, as well as of key humanitarian and development issues and organisations
- substantial experience in policy-oriented research, demonstrated by a track record of publications and reports
- experience of extended 'immersion' in a conflict context
- strong analytical skills, a capacity to write clearly, and excellent organisational and oral communication skills
- demonstrated ability to win work and attract funds
- the ability to work as part of a team and support the Head of HPG in people and project management.
