ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:
The Project Coordinator post is located in the office of the Executive Director and reports to the Executive Director or his designate. Working closely with the Commodity Security Branch, the post is responsible for coordinating activities to contribute to the achievement of the outcomes in the Strategic Plan related to family planning and unmet needs to support the Development Results Framework.
JOB PURPOSE:
Working in collaboration with other relevant units (i.e. IERD/RMB), the Project Coordinator serves as the OED focal point for developing and strengthening relationships primarily with the private sector in the area of Family Planning to ensure the strategic positioning of UNFPA. S/He will also provide strategic advice and ensure appropriate coordination with predominantly private sector partners in other OED driven initiatives related to Family Planning, and act as the UNFPA focal point ensuring UNFPA representation in other forums (such as the World Economic Forum, World Business Form, Clinton Global Initiative etc.)
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Project Coordinator supports the achievement of UNFPA's strategic objectives related to family planning by:
A. Planning and management - Oversees the UNFPA Project with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on Family Planning and supporting/facilitating this partnership:
• Provides technical guidance and oversees implementation of the project methodology that governs the project;
• Leads, coordinates, and monitors achievement of the work plan activities related to this project, and manages the administrative/finance support staff and budget;
• Guides and prepares the annual review reports in consultation with the Project Director/Project Steering Committee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation;
• Oversees/coordinates preparation of relevant briefing materials, position papers, and talking points related to the project for the use of senior management.
B. Coordination and provision of strategic guidance and advice - Ensures coordinated actions are taken across UNFPA to address the Strategic Plan outcome and objectives on Family Planning and unmet needs:
• Provides substantive analysis and summaries to senior management on the progress, challenges, and lessons learned with regard to major aspects of the FP programme, in close coordination with the CMB/TD;
• Supports the family planning component of the Development Results Framework during Business Plan Implementation efforts.
• Guides and facilitates planning activities, meeting coordination, and report production, review and clearances;
• Leads the provision of technical guidance and executes the project methodology that governs management of various projects;
• Participates in planning and implementation of FP activities, such as the organization of stakeholder meetings, and similar consultations.
C. Advocacy and resource mobilization - develops and strengthens partnerships, particularly with the private sector:
• Mobilizes increased commitment from donors in support of initiatives related to family planning and unmet needs;
• Provides substantive inputs to relevant technical units to assist them to put partnership arrangements in place, especially with the private sector, in support of FP work;
• Acts as UNFPA focal point and ensures representation of UNFPA at the World Economic Forum and other similar fora (e.g. World Business Forum, Clinton global Initiative, etc.);
• Advises senior management on policy and programme implications of the Gates project, particularly in relation to innovative approaches, such as the planned collaboration with the World Economic Forum, and other stakeholders. Provides strategic advice and ensures leveraging of coordination between the Gates Project and other initiatives driven by the OED (e.g. ICPD@20, 7Billion etc.).
D. Performs any other tasks as assigned by the ED/OED

Job Requirements:
- Advanced university degree in international relations, diplomacy, political science, management, public administration, communication or equivalent.
- 10 years of relevant progressively responsible professional experience, including experience at the field and international level, preferably with previous experience with/exposure to the UN Common System;
- Experience in project design, management, and monitoring;
- Extensive network within the donor community;
- Ability to build and influence cross-cutting teams to produce results.
- Strong presentation, communication, and writing skills in English required; working knowledge of another UN official language desirable.
