PLC / SCADA PROGRAMMER
African Barrick Gold seeks to appoint an experienced PLC / SCADA Programmer at our Bulyanhulu underground mining operations in Tanzania. The incumbent will support the Metallurgical operations through optimal automation techniques and to ensure that downtime is kept to a minimum by taking decisive actions utilizing available technologies.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Maintain and improve all PLC, SCADA and MMI systems.
• Draw up and implement automation coding and standards.
• Provide and improve effective training on the systems for instrumentation technicians to develop their skills.
• Conduct regular automation equipment inspections and make and implement plans to correct defects.
• Manage the automation structure that is in place to ensure the plant is operated at the required throughput and performance.
• Utilise knowledge of software and systems to provide process information to customers through generation of daily reports and trends.
• Maintain automation web browser.
• Keep up to date records, which include drawings, modification requests, change documentation, step by step procedures, hardware and software library.
• Ensure there is spare hardware and backup software for all automation equipment.
• Provide expertise to support improvements of process control to improve operational results.
• Use data reporting expertise to maximize value generation through analysis of data collected by the PLC network.
• Program software to a standardised format, well structured code and properly documented.
• Maintain and improve the network.
• Maintain and improve software security.
• Ensure all software is legal.
• Continuous Self Development and keep up to date with current technologies.
• Initiate and implement projects that will address any current or future improvement opportunities.
• Adhere to Cyanide Code Compliance standards within the operation.
• Ensure the annual budgeted operating time is achieved through high instrumentation availability of the equipment, and the instrumentation budget is managed.
• Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Instrument Foreman.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES
Education Requirements:
• Instrumentation Trade Certificate or equivalent
Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years programming and networking experience in a heavily instrumented plant in an industrial environment.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in Process Plant Operations
• Proficient with Wonderware Archestra.
• Proficient with PLC programming with emphasis on Modicon range.
• Ability to read and understand instrumentation engineering drawings.
• Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) hardware, software, programming and faultfinding expertise on all site systems.
• SCADA, and other HMI hardware, software, programming and faultfinding expertise on all site systems.
• Ability to program to standards using structured logic.
• Be familiar with the process flow, interlocking and controls. Must have reasonable understanding of the chemistry and mechanics involved.
