There is an opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to join an establishing CCA pole treatment plant in Lundamatwe, Iringa as the Production foreman. The New Forests Company is committed to treating wood products in an ecologically responsible manner and according to relevant standard specifications, so it is important that this person will be dedicated to quality, consistency and have excellent leadership skills.
The Production Foreman is responsible for the day to day management of the pole yard, treatment plant and pole dispatch.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recruitment and training of team members.
- Monitoring the implementation of health & safety procedures.
- Managing team performance and all staff related matters.
- Ensure availability of all resources required for production.
- Preparing and implementing daily production schedules.
- Plan and oversee maintenance schedules and preventative maintenance routines for vehicles and equipment.
- Implement and review health & safety provisions for machinery and operators.
- Monitor and communicate plant performance metrics.
- Liaising closely with the Plant Operator to ensure delivery of quality treated poles.
- Ensure the yard delivers quality poles with the correct dimensions, moisture content levels etc before treatment.
- Managing all expenditure stringently within budget guidelines.
- Monitor raw material and inventory levels and align working capital needs of the plant.
- Implement and maintain ISO9001 accreditation standards and operating procedures on site and managing surveillance audits.
Necessary Qualifications:
- Preferably a degree in wood technology, forestry or an applicable science although Diploma holders in the mentioned fields will be considered.
- At least 3 years experience in a supervisory role with a large team.
- Proven ability to build, manage and supervise teams of skilled and semi-skilled workers.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and report on daily targets.
- Excellent working knowledge of the technical aspects of wood properties, timber grading and timber drying.
- Good verbal and written English and Kiswahili communication skills.
- Ability to grasp production processes, controls and mechanics of wood treatment.
- Basic understanding of cost management and procurement practices.
- Computer literate and ability to produce reports in Microsoft office.
- Proven ability to manage quality and consistently monitor output.
- Proven experience in the management of teams and discipline.
- Knowledge of the ISO 9001 process would be a distinct advantage.
