Background / General description: | The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank, is a leader in sustainable investment in emerging markets, helping to reduce poverty and improve people s lives. The Corporation is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It has three hubs in Sub-Saharan Africa (Johannesburg, Dakar, Nairobi) and several field offices. IFC is recruiting an Investment Analyst for its Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services Department in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Investment Analyst will be integrated into the team that develops new business, completes transactions, and supervises a portfolio of loan, quasi-equity and equity investments. | Duties and Accountabilities: | The Investment Analyst will work closely with Investment Officers, who are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring and subsequent supervision of the Corporation s investment projects. S/he will assist the Investment Officers in monitoring and supervising the existing portfolio of investments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting in business development through the analysis of potential investment opportunities and the viability of new/repeat investments. Analyzing historical and projected financial statements. Creating financial models to support investment analysis. Monitoring existing investments in portfolio companies, comprising of various types of financial entities; evaluating risk and recommending pro-active redemptive measures. Conducting industry and market research, and assisting in IFC s portfolio and risk management efforts. Reviewing company information and preparing internal reports based on periodic financial statements, project progress reports, and other information submitted by clients. Establishing and maintaining client relationships to ensure responsive client service. Liaising with colleagues in Washington, DC and other global locations to evaluate financial and non-financial risks. | Selection Criteria: | University degree with specialization in finance, economics or business. Very strong analytical and problem solving skills with exposure to Excel based financial models. A minimum of 2 years working experience of which at least 1 year gained in the financial sector, preferably in an investment-related function. Good understanding of the financial and operational characteristics of financial institutions. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; understanding of French or Portuguese is a plus. |
