IRC is seeking a qualified South Sudanese national for a position of:
Job Title: Head Driver
Duty Station: Rumbek, Lakes State
Main Purpose of Job:
Responsible for proper handling of the vehicle, utilization of related equipment such as tools and completing of vehicle administrative procedures
Main Duties:
· Ensure the timely servicing and maintenance of all IRC vehicles and report any mechanical problems or issues to the Logistics Officer and the Field manager.
· Ensure that daily and weekly log sheets are filled out for all vehicles, including motorbikes. Ensure that vehicle is insured, legal documents are in order at all times; inform the Logistics Officer three weeks in advance of any impending renewals (e.g. vehicle insurance, road license, etc).
· Assist the driver to ensure that all vehicles are fully fuelled at the end of each shift and are properly and safely parked and cleaned on a weekly basis·
- Drive IRC employees and/or equipment to their destinations as requested and in a safe, courteous and law-abiding manner.
- Assist passengers and/or logistics staff with the loading/offloading of goods into/out of vehicles.
- Observe IRC vehicle policies and procedures at all times, including the updating of log books, wearing of seatbelts, keeping parked vehicles locked and secured at all times, etc.
- Ensure that the mobile radio is functioning and radio check is conducted before departure and keep regular radio contact during a trip.
- Verify the mechanical soundness, safety and presence of proper equipment (e.g. medical kits and tools) in vehicles on a daily basis, using the vehicle maintenance checklist form, and report any irregularities to the Log/Admin Officer.
- Assess/Confirm road conditions and the security situation at the start of every shift when travelling to, from or within the field.
- Operate HF and VHF mobile equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- In cases of vehicular accidents, immediately assist injured passengers as much as possible, inform the IRC office and nearest authority and, once the situation has been resolved, prepare an Incident Report and send to Logistics Officer
- Assist in renting of vehicles when required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Holder of Secondary School Certificate.
- Valid driving licence
- Written and spoken English.
- Pass score on IRC driving test
- Competence in MS word and excel will be an added advantage
- Resident of Rumbek
