Vacancy: Corporate Science Communications Officer Permanent position: The International Council for Science (ICSU) is recruiting an experienced Corporate Science Communications Officer, who would be able to take up office early in 2012. Salary: Euros 40,000–55,000 (net per year after social charges and before income tax) Location: Paris, France Closing date: 10 December 2011 ICSU is a non-governmental organization, whose mission is to strengthen international science for the benefit of society. This job offers a unique opportunity to further develop the communication strategy and corporate image of ICSU. The Corporate Science Communication Officer will be expected to raise the organization’s profile, increasing its visibility and reputation with its Members as well as wider audiences. This will include the continued development of ICSU websites and adoption of other electronic communication tools. S/he will also take responsibility for producing the regular publications and communications (reports, press releases, etc.) and organizing international events and press conferences. The ICSU Secretariat is a small international team of ~15 people and the ability to work in close cooperation with others is important. Essential qualifications and skills are: Good science background (first degree level or higher) and a broad interest in science and science policy • Formal qualification in science communication • Minimum of 5 years experience in science communication, including familiarity with media relations, ideally in an international context • Demonstrable science writing skills, both for print (in formal and less formal styles) and for the web • Experience in website-management (Web Content Management Systems) and the use of social networking tools • Excellent command of spoken and written English • Confident, outgoing personality • Good interpersonal skills and readiness to work within a team environment. While the working language of ICSU is English, a good knowledge of French (and other languages) would be advantageous. The starting salary will be dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate.
