Main responsibilities
Under the authority of the Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Information, and managed by the Director for Corporate Web Services, the incumbent shall implement UNESCO's Social Media Strategy, developing brand awareness, generating inbound traffic and communicating the Organizations messages. This role works with the WEB and Media Relations teams to support their respective missions, ensuring consistency in voice and cultivating a social media referral network.
The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for :

Implement UNESCO's social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across the Organization to ensure its effectiveness and encouraging adoption of relevant social media techniques into the corporate culture and into all of the organization's products and services. Coordinate disparate uses of social media and collect efforts in official and central channels. Push UNESCO Social Media in all official languages and major regions. Help deploy SEO and web analytics. Refine and communicate UNESCO's social media strategy across the Organization.

Prepare social media campaigns and day-to-day activities. Duties include online advocacy, writing editorial, community-outreach efforts, promotions, etc. Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites in multiple languages and regions, posting on relevant blogs, and seeding content into social applications as needed. Become an advocate of the Organization in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate. Manage social media outreach and explore an active brand ambassador network to spread communications.

Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs, and analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results. Regularly feed back insights gained from social media monitoring to Management and into the Communications and Editorial teams, to help them evolve their strategies in a timely fashion. Monitor trends in social media tools, technologies and applications. Implement and continually refine SEO and web analytics to help measure effectiveness.
Profile

Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in the fields of information technology and management, communication, journalism or other related social sciences disciplines.

2 to 4 years of work experience in social media. Additional experience in the preparation of social media campaign would be an advantage. At least 1 year at International level is preferable.

Advanced knowledge of social media and internet, including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and web analytic technologies, is required.

Ability to work with web Contents Management Systems. Solid knowledge of Web technologies and languages such as HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, etc.

Excellent writing and editorial skills.

Ability to maintain effective working relations within a multi-cultural environment and to work effectively in team environment.

Excellent knowledge of English or French, good knowledge of the other would be an asset. Knowledge of other languages would be an added advantage.
A written test may be used in the evaluation of candidates.

Conditions of employment
UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars but mainly paid in local currency. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates. For this post, the annual remuneration in local currency will start from around 47,100 euros (44,400 euros if without dependants) for P-1 and from around 59,500 euros (55,800 euros if without dependants) for P-2, exempt from income tax. In addition, UNESCO offers an attractive benefits package including 30 days annual vacation, home travel, education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance. The initial appointment, which is for two years, includes a probationary period of 12 months, and is renewable, subject to satisfactory service. Worldwide mobility is required as staff members have to serve in other duty stations according to UNESCO’s job rotation policy. UNESCO is a non-smoking organization.
