Barrick Africa is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Mining Engineer – Long Term Planning.
Reports to: Chief Mining Engineer
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
§ The Senior Long Term Planning Engineer is responsible for strategic and long term Mine Planning and Mine Design. The position is a leadership role and so is accountable for ensuring that the Mining Engineers are supported to ensure quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner that are in line with the monthly plan and budget.
§ Be pro-active in all aspects of operation safety, efficient utilisation of resources, Continuous Improvement initiatives; and encourage teamwork across the departments.
§ Assist the Chief Mining Engineer in ensuring that open pit optimisation and designs are completed to the Barrick standards and requirements.
§ Assist with the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to.
§ Prepare relevant documents required for the application of governmental permits required for mining to proceed smoothly.
§ Provide necessary information and/or plans required for acquiring lands necessary for the mining to proceed.
§ Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting of mid and end of the year Ore Reserves.
§ Reviewing on a regular basis the Life of Mine (LOM) defining mining strategies to ensure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved.
§ Assist the Chief Mining Engineer in Co-ordinating and incorporating inputs from various sections e.g. geology, geotechnical engineering, mine operations survey into LOM schedules and designs.
§ Ensure that waste dumping is done to design, benches follow the designed sequence and that waste dumps are rehabilitated to meet sustainable Environmental standards.
§ Assist the Mining Production Engineers to ensure that excavation achieves the design specifications (e.g. bench toe & crest, ramps, haul roads).
§ Demonstrate high level of communication with the Technical Services Team and other departments and commitment to continuously improve current procedures.
§ Deputise for the Chief Mining Engineer as required.
§ Manage the Succession Planning of the Engineers within the Technical Services Team to ensure that the PML commitments with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.
§ Manage business decisions and transaction in compliance to the Company Code of Ethics and compliance to the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) law and standards.
§ Any other duties that may be assigned to fulfill the overall business objective.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
§ Degree in Mining Engineering.
§ A minimum of 7 years relevant experience in the mining industry in large open pit operations utilising excavators and large trucks.
§ Demonstrate initiative by being able to take full responsibility for safety, production and quality of the mining operation (drilling, blasting, excavation, dumping & construction)
§ Ability and experience in training, coaching and mentoring subordinate personnel. Institute and manage skills and technological transfer for effective succession planning
§ Experience in the use of Gemcom’s Surpac, Whittle, Runge’s XPac and other mining software packages. Practical knowledge in the use of spreadsheet and database software packages
§ Experience in Open Pit optimizations, pit designing and production scheduling.
