Location: Tanzania
Working with partners and within the existing policy framework, the overall purpose of the job is to support the organisational Fast Track Initiative (FTI) to scale up the human resources for eye health in Africa, within the wider framework of addressing the global health worker crisis.
Reporting to the Director Human Resource for Health (DHRH), the key areas of responsibility for the positions are:-
- Maintain accurate and up to date information on all existing and new multi-country HRH consortia,
- Support all existing institutional training programs in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, The Gambia, Mozambique, Senegal,Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria.
- Work to support the alignment of Sightsavers country HRH strategies with existing national HRH plans.
- Support and help develop new partnerships with regional and continental bodies such as the East, Central and South Africa (ECSA) Health Community, Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC), (CIMEC), WHO-Afro and West Africa Health Organization (WAHO),
- Review and promote current strategies for integrating primary eye care into primary health care.
- Work with the Director of HRH and the Global Advocacy Team (GAT) to ensure that the organisation achieves its strategic advocacy objectives in relation to eye health, specifically HRD,
- Work to ensure that a sufficient evidence base is established to support the integration of the eye health work force in Africa into mainstream HRH priorities and plans.
Employment Standards:
The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Health, Social Sciences, Public Health). Masters degree is advantageous. Extensive working experience in eye health in Africa, ideally in a Ministry of Health, and significant management experience in Africa, ideally with an international health agency and cross culture across Africa is also essential.
Additional qualifications for the positions:
You should have a high degree of integrity, strong team work, planning and organising and communication skills, Good knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint, fluent in written and spoken English. Knowledge of French/Portuguese is an added advantage.
Location: The job will be based in Sightsavers Tanzania Country Office. Relocation expenses will not be provided.
