Context
Horn Relief is an international development and humanitarian
organization which focuses on increasing sustainable livelihoods for
(agro-) pastoralists and coastal communities in Somalia as well as
cross-border areas in neighboring countries. Presently it has
programmes focusing on water & sanitation, food security, non-formal
education, vocational training, cash relief, as well as humanitarian
emergency response. The present donor portfolio includes European
Commission, USAID, UNICEF, HRF, Netherlands Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Oxfam Novib, Oxfam Canada and others.
General Description of the Role:
The driver is responsible for the safe transport of passengers and
goods and for the condition and cleanliness of his/her vehicle.
Responsibilities:
1) Provide transport in support of different programme activities, as
required by the Logistics Manager.
2) Drive at sensible speed within legal limits.
3) Observe all traffic laws, show consideration for other road users
and pedestrians and respect road conditions.
4) Wear seatbelt whilst driving and insist all passengers do likewise,
if passengers refuse to wear seat belts the driver is not to start the
engine and is to report the incident to his supervisor.
5) Drive with due care for the vehicle itself, so as not to damage
vehicle bodywork or engine.
6) Keep trip log, noting kilometers and location when refueling and
also at end of day.
7) Do vehicle inventory check as per Vehicle Log Book at the start of
very shift.
8) Vehicles to be returned to the Horn Relief compound at the end of
each day.
9) Keep driving license current, and ensure their supervisor of any
change in the driving license status.
10) Check the vehicle to be used before use and to report to the
Transport Logistician any faults or problems with the vehicles on a
timely basis.
11) The driver is responsible for cleaning their vehicle, inside and
out, after every shift.
12) Respond to the instructions of the Logistician in relation to the
care, maintenance and repair issues relating to the assigned vehicle.
13) Report daily to the Logistics Assistant for assignments.
14) Work as allocated on the driver duty roster including nights and
weekends where applicable.
15) In the event of an accident involving a vehicle under the driver’s
care, the driver is required to prepare a full incident report, which
is then presented to the Logistics Manager and the country Director
16) Ensure that Horn Relief vehicles only carry authorized passengers
and that when authorized to carry non Horn Relief staff that the
passengers sign the appropriate disclaimers.
17) When transporting good, sign Packing List/Delivery Docket for
goods being transported, get consignee to sign Packing List/Delivery
Dockets for receipt on delivery and give signed Packing Lists/Delivery
Dockets to Cargo Officer or Logs assistant on return.
18) Any duties as requested by the Logistics Manager.
Requirements
• Valid Driving License
• Three years continuous driving experience
• A qualification and experience in vehicle maintenance and repairs
would be an advantage
• Good knowledge of routes within Juba
• Good communication skills
• Basic first-aid skills
• Flexible in terms of working hours.
