The total salary package for this position is $63,300 - $69,000* including basic salary, per diem and programme management allowance.
This is an excellent opportunity to work in an established programme, leading a team of 5 international staff and circa 200 national staff. The MAG Angola programme is looking to consolidate its position in Angola and to strengthen and develop its national capacity. Mine action in Angola is critical to the ongoing efforts to reconstruct and rehabilitate a country devastated by years of conflict.
As Country Director, you will spend time both in the capital, Luanda, and also in our field office in Luena. Reporting to our Regional Operations Manager at MAG’s UK HQ, you will be responsible for project design, development, implementation and management, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with donors, government agencies and international and national NGOs. You will also constantly be seeking opportunities to develop and improve MAG’s work in an evolving political and security context.
You will need experience of working overseas in international aid, emergency or development environments including expertise in programme and project design, development, management, monitoring and evaluation. You will also need experience of managing a staff team and managing finances. You should have the ability to work within complicated national and internal political frameworks and experience of building and developing management systems to improve programme accountability and efficiency.
Regional experience would be a distinct advantage as would Portuguese language skills, but this is not essential. You should however show willingness to learn basic Portuguese.
