Consultant to Establish a National Team to Support the Development of a Climate Resilience Strategy as part of the Climate Resilient Green Economy Ini
The Government of Ethiopia (GoE) has set a vision of becoming a middle income country by year 2025 while pursuing a climate neutral growth strategy. To realize this vision, the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED), have embarked on a process of defining a Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy that is anchored in the country’s Growth and Transformation Plan (2011-2015). To communicate this strategy, the GoE has developed the CRGE Vision document. This document identifies the following necessary components for achieving a climate resilient green economy: the development of a CRGE Strategy and CRGE Investment Plan, and the establishment of a CRGE Facility to support the implementation of the CRGE Strategy and Investment Plan. Under the political guidance of the Prime Minister’s Office and the technical supervision of the EPA, the Green Economy component of the CRGE Strategy has been prepared in seven sectors/sub-sectors that have high carbon abatement potential – Power Supply, Buildings and Green Cities, REDD+, Agricultural/Soil-based Emissions, Livestock, Transport, and Industry. The Climate Resilient component of the CRGE Strategy will be developed in three phases. Phase 1:
Phase 2:
Phase 3:
The outputs under the second phase will need to build on the outputs from the first phase, which is consolidation of the draft sectors and regional states climate change action plans, and in turn, phase 2 will be a basis for phase 3.
