We are seeking construction manager to plan, co-coordinate and manage the development of construction projects from conceptual stages through to the final completion of construction in a timely and economical basis. The Construction Manager will ensure that construction plans and processes meet donor and stakeholder’s requirements, including the functionality, materials and standards, while ensuring the safety of employees, contractors and the general public.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and coordinate all aspects of construction projects
- Evaluate and determine appropriate construction methods, develop the most cost-effective construction plan and schedule on a project by project basis
- In collaboration with project managers, determine labor requirements for each project and participate in the selection and management of contractors and construction vendors
- Ensure that construction projects are completed within budget and on-schedule
- Coordinate, source and manage construction materials, equipment and people or oversee this process when others are contracted to perform this service
- Develop construction timetables and budgets
- Oversee the selection of contractors to best meet the needs of project demands and stakeholder requirements
- Overseeing the performance of contractors
- Ensure that construction resources are used efficiently and effectively
- Ensure that all safety precautions are adhered to by contractors, stakeholders and staff
- Monitor compliance with donor and host-country regulations
- Ensure satisfaction of all of licensing and certification requirements; assure the acquisition of necessary licenses and permits as required
- Review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications to monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans and schedules
- Track and control construction costs against the project budget to avoid cost overruns
- Prepare weekly reports of progress and requirements for labor, material, machinery, and equipment at the construction site
- Meet regularly with key stakeholders, other project managers, trade contractors, vendors, architects, engineers, and others to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project
Qualifications of successful candidate
Knowledge, Education, Skills and Experience
- Bachelors degree in building science, construction management, civil engineering, or business, combined with 7-10 work experience within the construction industry, preference for experience for construction experience in low resource countries
- High level of flexibility and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong project management and budgeting skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects simultaneously, while analyzing and resolving specific problems
- Familiarity and understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
- Comfort with managing multiple assignments in a dynamic, developing nation context
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop positive working relationship with many different stakeholders, including owners, other managers, designers, supervisors, and vendors
- Familiarity with contracts, plans, and specifications, and knowledgeable about construction methods, materials, and regulations
- Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating
- Comfort with multi-cultural work environments
