Background
Millennium Villages Project works in dozens of countries in Africa to fight and eradicate extreme poverty. The project's interventions are based on MDGs and it operates in poverty devastated communities across Africa in areas such as health, infrastructure, agriculture, business enterprises, education, water and sanitation and environment protection. In Rwanda, the project is looking for suitable candidate to fill the post of Communication Officer based in Nyamata, Bugesera District.
The candidate will generally function as Communication and Public Relation Officer for Millennium Villages Project. She/he will have to instigate both communication and public relation strategies aiming at public awareness and partnership for achieving MDGs by 2015. She/he will work jointly with the project Website Administrator and management to disseminate project information and maintain a good image of the project to the public while securing and maintain partners using all possible media means.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Documenting and disseminating successfully stories, lessons, experiences and Millennium Villages/Millennium Promise promising practices and activities using both local and international appropriate media,
* Linking with and building good working relations with relevant media houses for coverage of Millennium Villages achievement and activities,
* Coordinating, developing and disseminating Millennium Villages appropriate community messages, advocacy tools and promotional materials aiming at promoting community awareness on project interventions,
* Identifying, publishing and posting out of the ordinary stories from the MV/MP project interventions progressive on continuous basis aiming at proving that MV approach could eradicate extreme poverty,
* Developing and distributing innovative and creative promotional materials to support partnership development and visibility of the project,
* Guiding and assisting project staff to produce high quality of needed communication and educative materials including and not limited to designing, writing and editing annual reports, brochures, newsletters, and website content such as blogs,
* Supporting sectors to design, write and edit sector monographs and posters showing progress of intervention activities and outputs,
* Preparing and disseminating on demand public relations materials including news and press releases, media alerts, fact sheets, media kits, meeting summaries, interventions status reports and other materials as required by the project,
* Lobbying and securing speaking opportunities for the project senior management and technical staff and partners within the Media and to community groups and organizations,
* Maintaining a news media archive for MV and arrange for and manage photographs to accompany stories and to coordinate project documentaries.
* Editing business proposals for grains and both scientific and technical reports for accuracy, clarity and style that provides competitive advantage,
* Discovering and writing successfully project stories for local press on regular basis; encouraging and training stall on how to write, edit and disseminate information related to their work,
* Assisting the management in organizing public relations and press events and tracking and archiving project coverage in both local and intentional media of all sorts.
Skills and Abilities
* A good knowledge and experience in media management, still and video photography, articles writing, utilization of social media tools, event design and management, information documentation, and creativity in development and disseminating communication products,
* Possessing excellent oral and written communication skills both in English and Kinyarwanda, French is added advantage...
* Experience in writing press releases for public relations and communication for audiences from different background,
* Exceptional proof reading skills and an ability to pay attention to details with ability to critique media messages,
* Excellent copy writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with a strong communication and presentation skills. Knowledge in desktop graphic design software is highly desired,
* Must have considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures, cooperatives, and project management skills is added advantage,
Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Advertising- and Branding or related field with practical working experience
