The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society institution working throughout Africa to bring creative African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on the continent. ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments by bringing conflict resolution, dialogue and institutional development to the forefront as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD specialises in conflict management, analysis and prevention and intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, research and conflict analysis.
ACCORD is recruiting for the following position in the Peacebuilding Unit, to be based in its office in Durban, South Africa.
SENIOR PROGRAMME OFFICER: PEACEBUILDING UNIT – REFERENCE: 2/2011/SPO-PBU
Key Responsibilities: The Senior Programme Officer will report to the Coordinator of the Peacebuilding Unit. S/he will be responsible for the development of a detailed implementation plan for programmes in the Peacebuilding Unit and the implementation of the strategic direction of the Peacebuilding Unit. The Senior Programme Officer will be responsible for Compiling written reports on activities, and written submissions for internal and external (donor) reports; Following the field and academic debates linked to core activities of the Unit; Establishing networks for the Unit with partners nationally, regionally and continentally; and administrative management of the Unit on a day-to-day basis.
Requirements: The Senior Programme Officer must be in possession of a post graduate degree (Masters) in International Relations, Peace and Security, Conflict Resolution, or related field. S/he will have between 3–5 years operational and programme management experience in an NGO environment, and must have strong oral and written communication skills. Previous experience in training or skills as a facilitator will be an advantage as well as fluency in French. The Senior Programme Officer must also have an understanding of peace and security issues in Africa. Experience in maintaining administrative and financial systems will be an advantage.
