Senior Manager, Project Execution Planning

The company has an extensive project development plan, which is expected to add six new mines between 2011 and 2017. In order to develop these properties, a dedicated team has been created to focus on Capital Projects. A key facet of this team is the Capital Projects Procurement group.
Position Overview
Barrick has created the role of Senior Manager – Project Execution Planning, to improve and enrich its construction and project execution planning capabilities for executing capital projects, and to enable it to standardize and improve its execution planning capability across multiple projects being developed simultaneously.
As an experienced construction and planning professional, the Senior Manager, Project Execution Planning will be responsible for overseeing the Project Execution planning by the project teams, EPCM’S and other contractors for Capital Projects and maintaining and improving the standards and processes to improve the quality of execution planning issued by Barrick and its engineers (EPCM’s) during the planning and execution phase of the various phases of mine development projects. They will develop a Project Execution tool kit which enables project teams to leverage off previous project’ experience s and lessons learned. They will also assist in the planning and execution development, as required by the Project Teams and the Capital Projects Construction group.
To effectively develop comprehensive project execution plan (PEP) strategies and the associated management plans, it will be essential to facilitate PEP development sessions and workshops, where the key project participants are gathered to discuss the objectives and scope of the project effort. So good Facilitation skills will be required
The Senior Manager, Project Execution Planning will combine a strong mix of technical and planning knowledge of project execution and will be able to work across various functions to ensure that the execution plans cover all requirements.
Key experiences will include: Development and implementation of project execution plans, good understanding of planning and scheduling, field construction experience, a good understanding of project management processes and requirements.
Extensive travel (up to 40 percent) to multiple overseas destinations is anticipated for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- To effectively develop comprehensive project PEP strategies and the associated management plans with the project teams
- Coordinate the appropriate workshops to facilitate project execution planning (to include owner, EPCM’S partners, vendors, etc.). Coordinate the development of requirements for each workshop to help facilitate the project team’s discussion.
- Provide coaching / information to the team members on lessons learned from other projects to help them make the right decisions concerning project opportunities and issues.
- Facilitate the workshops. Coordinate with project teams and partners to prepare their presentation / discussion materials for workshops.
- Work in collaboration with engineering service providers, Project Construction Managers and other advisors (Engineering, Environment, Social, finance, construction, project controls, Mining, Process, Supply Chain) to establish the project execution plans.
- Work with projects teams to develop and implement project execution plans.
- Maintain and update Barrick Development system (BDS) in regards to Project Execution plans and standards.
- Work in close cooperation with Capital Projects Teams to develop appropriate requirements for project execution plans.
- Work with the project teams on the ongoing update of the plan.
- Incorporate lesson Learnt on PEP into BDS.
Qualifications for the role:
- Bachelor degree (mandatory)
- 5-10 years of construction and project experience
- 5 years of project planning experience in a mining, oil and gas or heavy capital / engineering/ EPCM environment
- Experience in working in a multinational / multicultural environment
- Ability to travel and work at elevation (+/- 5000 meters)
- Spanish language skills would be an asset
