London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine - Department of pathogen molecular biology, Faculty of infectious and tropical diseases
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow for 36 months.
The Department of Pathogen Molecular Biology works on a number of microbial pathogens including malaria parasites. We are hoping to appoint individuals with an interest in the biology of malaria parasites to work on a protein kinase (the cGMP-dependent protein kinase) that plays key roles in a number of life cycle stages. This part of the project will aim to identify the substrates of this enzyme, identify the cellular processes which it regulates and to further delineate the signalling pathway in which this protein kinase functions.
The successful applicant will have extensive experience with Plasmodium falciparum cultivation and ideally experience with transfection of P. falciparum. Experience with protein kinase assays, identification of kinase substrates and preparation of proteins for mass spectrometric analysis would also be an advantage.
The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust for a period of 36 months and is available immediately. The salary is on the Research Fellow scale £35,511 to £39,555 per annum inclusive.
Applications should be made on-line via our website at http://jobs.lshtm.ac.uk. The reference is this post is DB03. Any queries regarding the application process may be addressed to jobs@lshtm.ac.uk. The closing date for applications is 11.00pm on 25 August 2011. Applications should also include a CV and names of two referees, one of whom should be your most recent employer, who can be approached immediately, if shortlisted. .
