Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict. With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG's mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG has been working in Rwanda since 2008, using media and outreach activities to foster dialogue on issues like land, youth entrepreneurship, rumor management, and girls' participation.
Summary of Position
SFCG is seeking a Project Officer to join its team. The Project Offer's primary responsibilities will be in support of the organization's work on reconciliation, while also contributing to efforts on other issues. Key functions will include strategic facilitation, conflict resolution training, and organization of collaborative activities. The Project Officer will work closely with SFCG's media and outreach teams on a complement of activities, and will report to the National Programs Manager. SFCG's staff is highly flexible, responsive, and team-oriented, and the staff person is expected to engage in a similar manner.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Conduct consultative meetings and build relationships with key stakeholders
- Liaise with key actors within the government, civil society, and communities
- Provide technical assistance to targeted participants in conflict resolution and reconciliation
- Lead trainings in conflict resolution and reconciliation
- Partner with the media and outreach team to ensure that activities include accurate, quality content on reconciliation themes
- Assist with reporting and project documentation
- Contribute to the achievement of SFCG's objectives and priority themes in Rwanda
- Be engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge, particularly contributing to its Institutional Learning initiative
- Other duties as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in conflict resolution, or other related Social Sciences University degree
- Three (3) years of work experience, with at least two(2) in reconciliation/peace building;
- Strong communication skills in English, French, and Kinyarwanda;
- Experience in facilitation and training;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Flexibility; and A sense of humour
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
