The University of Tromsø has a position vacant as Professor/Associate Professor in Renewable Energy, Environment and Climate.
The Faculty of Science and Technology consists of the following departments: Department of Chemistry, Department of Computer Science, Department of Engineering and Safety, Department of Geology, Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Department of Physics and Technology.
The Professorship will be sponsored by Statoil and will be part of the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science and Technology, at the University of Tromsø. Our position on sustainable development and climate change is supported by a new curriculum in energy, environment and climate. Lectures are shared by the Department of Physics and Technology and the Department of Geology. Research and educational developments for renewable energy continue to develop and the number of highly motivated students is increasing.

The Department of Geology invites applications for a professorship in renewable energy, environment and climate. Responsibilities include developing a solid external funding in renewable and sustainable energy, in close cooperation with the industry. Teaching commitments in energy geosciences, sustainable energy and environment are required. We are interested in applicants that bridge disciplines focusing on renewable energy and the relation between energy production and environment/climate. We particularly encourage woman to apply.
The successful candidate has earned a PhD or equivalent in a relevant geosciences discipline and will be committed to research and undergraduate/graduate education.
In order to be awarded a professorship, applicants shall be able to document substantially more extensive research of high quality than that required to attain a doctorate degree.
Further, applicants must be able to document teaching qualifications in the form of university-level teaching seminars, other teaching education or through having collected a teaching portfolio. Applicants must have a good command of English.
The main principle is that each employee within this category of post shall spend an equal amount of time on teaching and research and development work, after time spent on other duties has been deducted. As a norm the time resources spent on administrative duties constitute 5 % for scientific staff in this category of post.
Employees in permanent posts of professor, dosent (professor), førsteamanuensis (associate professor) and førstelektor (associate professor) are entitled to apply for a paid sabbatical (Research and Development), cf. the Guidelines for allocation of R&D sabbatical (in Norwegian only).
The successful applicant must be willing to engage herself/ himself in the ongoing development of her/his discipline and the university as a whole.
Remuneration for Professors/Associate Professors is in accordance with the State wage scale code 1013/1011. A compulsory contribution of 2 % is made to the Norwegian State Pension Fund.
Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The main emphasis will be placed on assessment of the submitted scientific works. Teaching qualifications, popularisation/dissemination and policy and administration work will also be considered.

In the event that there are no suitably qualified applicants for the position, an interim appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made in accordance with the Civil Servants Act Section 5.1. A permanent appointment shall be made upon application before the three-year period elapses based on a new evaluation. The appointment will become permanent in the event that the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.
In the event of an interim appointment on the basis of lacking teaching qualifications, the applicant must before the three-year period document teaching qualifications through collecting a teaching portfolio.
