The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is a South African-based civil society institution working throughout Africa to bring creative African solutions to the challenges posed by conflict on the continent. ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments by bringing conflict resolution, dialogue and institutional development to the forefront as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD specialises in conflict management, analysis and prevention and intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, research and conflict analysis.
ACCORD is recruiting for the following position in the Peacebuilding Unit, to be based in its office in Durban, South Africa.
COORDINATOR: PEACEBUILDING UNIT – REFERENCE: 1/2011/CO-PBU
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager of the Interventions Department, the Coordinator will lead the strategic and substantive coordination of all initiatives in the Peacebuilding Unit. The specific tasks include, but are not limited to, leading the strategic planning and operational design for the Unit; Designing and fundraising for peacebuilding interventions; Managing the implementation of activities against the operational plan; Preparation and monitoring of annual budgets for the Unit and Liaison and correspondence with key stakeholders.
Requirements: The Coordinator must be in possession of an advanced graduate degree (Masters) in International Relations with Peace and Security Specialisation or Conflict Resolution. S/he will have between 5–7 years operational and programme management experience in the peacebuilding field with at least 2–3 years management experience. S/he will possess substantive knowledge in the field of peacebuilding in Africa that integrates policy, practice and research and addresses emerging issues in peace and security. Fluency in English and French is essential.
