Youth Civic Participation Research Intern
The Terms of Reference is outlined below. Primary areas of responsibility are:
- Carry out in-depth desk research on: national government policies, programmes, and services which promote youth engagement in decision making processes in Tanzania;
- Support facilitation of youth led focus group discussions in Dar, Iringa, Ruvuma, and Mbeya with a small team of youth researchers and supported by regional programme offices
- Produce a clear and succinct report of the desk research and the findings of the focus group discussions to a standard suitable for public dissemination
Context & Person Specification
Restless Development Tanzania aims to be the banner carrier for youth-led development – demonstrating at the grassroots and policy levels that young people can and must play a lead role in development. Our organisation has expanded and evolved as demand for our youth-led work has grown. We are entering a new strategic phase which will be launched in October 2011, and will be carrying out specific research pieces to support the direction we are taking in Tanzania.
Restless Development Tanzania is seeking a short term Youth Civic Participation Research Intern to undertake an exciting opportunity to undertake desk research and to facilitate grassroots focus group discussions with young people.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, confident and articulate in their approach, with strong attention to detail. Essential skills and experience include:
- Good technical knowledge of civic participation and national policies in Tanzania including challenges and opportunities in policy implementation at decentralised levels;
- Excellent research skills using online resources, public reports, and professional contacts
- Excellent analytical skills to interpret the data and findings of the research
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Knowledge and experience in facilitating participatory activities with diverse youth audiences
The internship is to start by 22 August 2011 and will require 30 working days for completion to be finished by end of September at the latest (the specific days and work plan to be agreed with the successful candidate)
