PURPOSE: The Child Friendly Space (CFS) Supervisor plays an important role in United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Sudan's program structure. UMCOR-NGO’s program areas in South Sudan focus primarily in the field of Emergency Relief and transitional development, which include but not limited to the following sectors; water and sanitation, food security, health, education/child protection, shelter, camp coordination, and community development. The position is based in Aweil, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The CFS Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the establishment and operation of UMCOR’s Child Friendly Spaces in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
Most specifically, the position will be directly charged with the following:
• Work with the Program Manager in Aweil to ensure that UMCOR is properly represented at all technical coordination meetings with relevant line Ministries, UN Agencies and NGOs as needed and network with other agencies and experts in the related field
• Liaise with all INGOs and national NGOs implementing child protection activities in the same areas of NBeG State in order to promote information sharing and coordination of activities and prevent the duplication of interventions.
• Assist the Program Manager in the recruitment of CFS staff / CFS volunteers as needed.
• Supervise the daily work of the CFS Assistant and 6 CFS Officers.
• Ensure that all staff members understand the approved activities of all program interventions and supervise the implementation of all protection activities in close coordination with the Program Manager.
• Carry out regular monitoring visits to UMCOR CFS in order to monitor the quality and safety of all activities being implemented within the CFS.
• Develop a Supervisory Protocol for all CFS staff in cooperation with the Program Manager and any UMCOR consultants, so that it can be used to ensure the safety and well-being of children attending each CFS. Ensure the daily implementation of this protocol at each CFS.
• Ensure that monitoring and supervision reports are prepared in time for the attention of the Program Manager. Bring any issues regarding CFS operation and the quality of project implementation to the immediate attention of the Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS and Professional Experience:
• At least 3 years field experience with NGO’s with at least 1 year working of experience working on child protection issues.
• A university degree in a relevant field (sociology, social work, child development, education, health, etc)
• Experience in the operation of child friendly spaces is highly preferred
• Gender mainstreaming experience across sectors (WASH, education, food security / livelihoods) desired.
KNOWLEDGE:
• Knowledge in setting up and supporting child friendly spaces, implementing initiatives for raising community awareness on protection issues, implementing children’s and women’s welfare improvement projects, providing mental health assistance, and supervising adult education initiatives.
• Understanding of children, youth, women and gender development issues in relief situations.
• Good understanding of the Red Cross and NGO Code of Conduct, Sphere Standards, Charter of the Rights of the Child, and adherence to Humanitarian Principles.
• Knowledge of MS Office and email a must.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) especially in English.
• Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills and detail orientation
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
