Contract Duration
One year with the possibility of extension (six months probationary period). A roster of suitable candidates may
be established for this particular profile as a result of this selection process for both fixed-term established and
general temporary assistance posts.
Duties & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of the Outreach Unit, the incumbent is responsible for:
- Advise on legal matters, identify and propose information opportunities, activities and approaches;
- Track, research and analyse information on assigned legal issues;
- Participate in organising the clearance, production and distribution of printing and audiovisual information
materials, concerning the Court for target groups and individuals;
- Follow judicial activity on daily basis and advice on the need of issuance of press releases;
- Ensure flow of accurate information between Headquarters and field offices;
- Prepare cases and trial information sheets and summaries of Court reports;
- Select legal materials to be published in the Court judicial reports and oversee publications managed by the
Unit;
- Devise and oversee content of workshops, seminars, and trial-related briefings;
- Draft notes for speakers, particularly principals and senior officials;
- Give regular presentations and briefings on behalf of the Court to legal audiences and interact in general with
legal and other communities;
- Assist and advise field outreach teams in communicating effectively and building networks with the legal
communities, representatives of the national systems of justice and bar associations;
Essential Qualifications
Advanced university degree in law, preferably with a specialization in international criminal law; at least two
years of professional experience (four years with a first level university degree) as a lawyer or legal adviser,
preferably at international organisations or NGO#s and experience with drafting legal texts in French.
Other Skills
(i) Communication #Strong communication skills (spoken, written, public speaking and presentational), particularly
in preparing out of legal texts public information and outreach materials and reports that are clear and concise
and intelligible to an audience of generalists; and ability to present sensitive issues.
(ii) Planning and organising
- Good planning and organisation of own work; ability to work effectively under
strict deadlines.
(iii) Teamwork
- Good interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people
of different national and cultural backgrounds with respect for diversity.
(iv) Client Orientation
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, other staff, and
outside collaborators.
(v) Technology Awareness
- Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications,
such as, word processing, PowerPoint or equivalent, graphics software, and internal databases.
KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES
Fluency in either of the working languages of the Court, English or French, is essential. Working knowledge of
the other is desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court would be considered an asset
(Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish)
