Founded in 1993, Women for Women International (WfWI) provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources needed to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. WfWI currently works in eight different countries around the world and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
WfWI has an immediate opportunity for a Global Human Resources (HR) Manager -Africa. This position will be based in Africa and will manage HR activities in four (4) countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan.
The Global Human Resources Manager will collaborate with WfWI global and domestic HR teams, Country Directors, programmatic staff and designated in-country human resources representatives to ensure HR best practices are in place for all major areas of HR to include; recruitment, compensation & benefits, employee and labor relations, performance management, training and development & safety and security management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collaborate with Country Directors and designated in-country representatives to ensure that HR systems, including policies and procedures, are developed, continuously monitored and updated, and are compliant with local labor laws and in line with HQ policy standards.
2. Develop, implement and monitor all HR county office support systems; to include, recruiting, performance management, benefits and compliance.
3. Ensure that contractual, compensation, financial and legal issues are compliant in the local offices and in accordance with HQ policy.
4. Ensure smooth functioning, communication and coordination with HQ programs and business support functions.
5. Monitor compensation, benefits and retention strategies by participating in local compensation surveys, collecting benchmarking data from counterparts locally and working with local insurance brokers and carriers.
6. Assist in the development of HR tools for tracking and reporting data and provide oversight to ensure data integrity.
7. Develop and implement quality control standards and periodically audits HR data and record keeping files.
8. Manage the development and compliance of security standards and procedures.
9. Engage with local attorneys for guidance and support on local labor laws and regulations.
10. Respond to inquiries and questions from in-country local human resources representatives and provide guidance and assistance.
11. Identify learning opportunities for in-country local human resources representatives.
12. Monitor, update and interpret policy from the WfWI home office and local national policy manual.
13. Work with HQ and in-country HR representatives to identify staff training needs.
14. Develop HR related trainings for local management staff and manage and/or lead training
15. Research staff development opportunities externally.
16. Recommend best practices to create opportunities for information flow between HQ and country offices, as well as look for opportunities for inter-country information sharing.
3. Required Qualifications
(a) Level of Education/Academic Qualification
Master’s Degree in human resources or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
(b) Relevant Work Experience
Minimum of 7 years experience in the field of human resources; 5 years in international human resources preferably in an NGO or INGO environment.
(c) Other Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required
• Ability to define problems, establishes facts, analyze situations and make decisions.
• Must be flexible, self-motivated and able to take the initiative to resolve issues.
• Strong critical thinking skills, listening skills and the ability to assess complex issues pragmatically.
• Excellent communicator with knowledge of effective management and the ability to interact with and lead employees at various levels.
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to deliver employee training.
• Strong understanding of confidentiality as it relates to Human Resources.
• Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience implementing human resources information systems in a global context.
• Must have the ability to read country labor laws and regulations and have experience working with local attorneys.
• Excellent written and verbal English language skills. French language skills helpful.
