Organizational Context: Under the supervision of the Head of the Internet Services Section, the incumbent has the following principal duties: | |
Main duties: (a) work closely with various software development and project teams and other stakeholders to design state-of-the-art graphical user interfaces for web based software applications comprising proof-of-concept mockups, wireframes, demos and prototypes. Review existing web applications, suggest and implement improvements based on modern user experience design principles. (b) create user-centered designs to ensure that WIPO's on-line information products and services are easy to use and correspond to the needs of the end users. Select and apply appropriate usability testing and evaluation methods while ensuring that business and functional requirements are met. (c) develop standards compliant web design implementations using the required coding techniques, taking into account technical constraints imposed by content management systems and programming tools. Ensure that designs are in-line with approved standards and guidelines and that interfaces are accessible to users with disabilities. (d) collaborate in the drafting of software requirements specifications by providing and reviewing user interface design related specifications to be provided to software development teams. (e) define user interface design standards for WIPO's web applications, to optimize ease-of-use and to achieve a professional, integrated and consistent look and feel across WIPO's web based services. Develop and maintain user interface design guidelines and act as a focal point concerning user experience design related queries. (f) conduct ongoing research of web-based user interface development best practices. | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: University degree in computer science, human computer interaction or a related discipline. | |
Experience: At least six years of experience in the field of user interface design, with specific expertise in web-based software applications. Experience with software development methodologies such as Iterative development and Agile. Knowledge of project management methodologies such as PRINCE2 would be an advantage. | |
Skills: Extensive knowledge in user experience design principles, such as usability and user-centered design; Experience in creating intuitive application interfaces that combine professional graphical design with usability and accessibility. Proven track record in designing compelling and professional graphical user interfaces is required. Strong expertise in developing standards compliant HTML, CSS, AJAX, Javascript and related tools and techniques, using development tools such as Dreamweaver and Eclipse. Good knowledge of W3C web standards and coding practices for web accessibility. Very good expertise in graphical design using tools like Adobe Photoshop. Prototyping skills using interface mockup tools and wireframes. Creative approach to problem solving, innovation and issue resolution. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate actively and proactively with others in cross-functional teams. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally and as a presenter. | |
Languages: Very good knowledge of English or French and a good knowledge of the other language. Knowledge in any of the other official WIPO languages would be an asset. | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) 56.018 USD (sans personnes à charge) 60.013 USD (with primary dependants) | Post adjustment: 99.8 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
Additional Information: Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations. * Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance. No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment. | |
