VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE
Communications & Public Relations Manager (Main Campus)
Applicants must be holders of a Master’s Degree in Public Relations or Communication or related areas or equivalent qualification from a recognized university. In addition they must;
  • Have at least five (5) years relevant work experience at a senior position in a large organization preferably in an institution of higher learning.
  • Demonstrate administrative and professional competence in the area of Public Relations.
  • Be conversant with relevant aspects of Information Technology.
Duties will include:
  • Initiating and developing appropriate public relations strategies.
  • Preparing publication materials and maintenance of media database.
  • Initiating and managing linkages with stakeholders and keeping record of the stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining strong and credible institutional image
  • Organizing protocol and media events and briefings.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Information System Auditor – Grade E/F
Applicants must be holders of Bachelors of Science Degree or Higher Diploma in Information Science and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Part 2. Applicants must be holders of Certified Information System Auditor (CISA). In addition they must:

  • Have three (3) years working experience in a busy organization.

Graphic Designer - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelors degree in Information Technology or Computer Science from a recognized university.
In addition, the applicant must have;

  • At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
  • Practical experience with software such as; Adobe After Effects, 3D Studio Max, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Director, Macromedia Flash, Dream Weaver, Adobe Premiere, Sound Forge, Microsoft package Corel Draw.
  • Experience with the following programming languages; Java, Script writing with PHP and Visual Basic.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving and good judgment skills.
  • Experience with large-scale projects and knowledge of development & production process and be passionate about details.
  • Ability to utilize many applications of multimedia.
  • Experience in organizing and writing technical reports and presentations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to;

  • Build capacity among subject matter experts in multimedia and Graphic design.
  • Create animations, graphics and other multimedia elements.
  • Record and Edit Video and Sound
  • Integrate graphics, sound, text, animation, still images and digital video into one package
  • Upload e-content to the servers
  • Create programs and applications for the Internet and for CD-ROMs
  • Produce, process and package e-content

Administrative Assistant (Marketing) - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of a Degree in any of the following areas; Social Sciences/Public Relations and Marketing from a recognized University.

In addition they must:

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in the relevant areas preferably in institution of higher learning.
  • Have proof of computer literacy.

Audit Assistant – Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of Bachelor of Commerce Degree or related field, or a CPA Part two (2) from a recognized institution. In addition they must:

  • Have three (3) years working experience in a busy organization.

Those with a certificate of CIA or CISA will be added advantage.

Receptionists - Grade III/IV (Main Campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ and above. They must also have a certificate in front office operation/reception or equivalent certificate from a reputable institution. In addition they must have:

  • At least three (3) years experience in a busy office environment.
  • Evidence of computer literacy.

Knowledge of a foreign language will be an added advantage.

DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (ADMINISTRATION) DIVISION

Legal Assistant
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelors Degree (LLB) from a recognized institution. In addition, the applicant must;-

  • Have at least five (5) years experience of legal work in legal chambers handling legal matters for a busy organization, a Government department or an institution of higher learning.
  • Be advocates of the High Court with current license.
  • Be well versed and experienced in Labour Laws of Kenya.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handling legal matters of the University.
  • Advising the University on legal matters.
  • Assisting the University’s lawyers in all court proceedings involving the University and giving advisory opinions when needed.

Administrative Assistant – Grade C/D (ODEL) – (Kitui, and Nyeri Campuses)
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field from a recognized university. In addition the candidates must:

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant post qualification working experience in a busy organization preferably in an institution of higher learning.
  • Show proof of computer literacy.
  • Indicate preferred campus

The successful candidate will, among other duties, be responsible for:

  • Marketing the Open Learning Programme in the region
  • Using the University Management Systems to maintain and update websites and internal databases
  • Managing and maintaining the office budget allocations
  • Accompanying the Director and other University Teams to take notes at meetings and provide general assistance with presentations
  • Arrange meetings and conferences
  • Liaising with the University and the Main ODel Office

The successful candidate should be totally committed, flexible and hands-on administrator to ensure smooth running of the office.

  • At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy Teaching or Research Laboratory.
  • Proven knowledge in repair and maintenance of ICT equipment

Caretaker - Grade III/IV (Nyeri, Kitui, City, Nakuru, Mombasa and Main Campuses)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ and above. In addition the applicant should have:

  • Discharge certificate from disciplinary forces or Security firms with rank of Constable or its equivalent.

Plant Operator for the Backhoe Loader - Grade A/B
Applicants must be a holder of KCE Division IV or KCSE D+ (plus) and above. They must have trained on the use of machines and preferably a backhoe loader from a reputable institution. They must also have five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy organization.

Machine Technician - Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (Plain) and above. They must have a certificate in machine maintenance or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy organization.

DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (FINANCE, PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT) DIVISION


Procurement Officer - Grade 12
Applicants must be holders of a Masters Degree in Procurement and Supplies or Business related field from a recognized university. In addition they must be holders of professional qualification in Purchasing and Supplies Management such as a Diploma in CIPS or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

They must also have at least five (5) years relevant work experience preferably in an institution of higher learning. They must be conversant with procurement systems and processes in public institutions and have excellent computer, and negotiation skills. Candidates who are members of a relevant professional body will have an added advantage.

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, he/she will be responsible for among other things, the following:

  • Preparing and maintain annual tender documents.
  • Developing and maintaining an up to date procurement plan
  • Preparing periodic and annual supply chain reports
  • Undertaking market surveys on prices
  • Undertaking inventory control, procurement and disposal of stores and assets.

ICT Technician - Grade C/D (Kitui and Mombasa Campuses)
Applicants must be holders of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the relevant area or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

In addition, applicants must:-

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy Laboratory as a Technician
  • Knowledge of computer applications including CAD will be an added advantage

The successful candidate will be involved in planning, preparing and implementing practical/laboratory exercises for undergraduate and postgraduate students

Purchasing Assistant – Grade A/B (Ruiru Campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade D+ (Plus) and above. They must have a Diploma in Supplies Management or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution. In addition, applicants must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy procurement office and be computer literate.

ESTATES DEPARTMENT
Maintenance Officer (Kitui and Mombasa Campuses)
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Higher National Diploma in Electrical Engineering with five (5) years relevant working experience, three (3) years of which must be at a supervisory level.

In addition the candidates must:

  • Knowledge of repairs and maintenance of building systems and equipment
  • Proficiency in relevant computer packages.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform the maintenance duties according to the University’s policy, rules and regulations.
  • Initiate the purchase of items in the Maintenance Department.
  • Plan and requisition for spare parts for equipment, plant machinery as need arises.
  • Manage the installation of new technical items in the Maintenance department.
  • Maintenance of motor vehicle according to maintenance schedule.
  • Prepare Department’s annual recurrent development expenditure.
  • Ensure that the approved budget is properly utilized for the project allocated for.


CATERING SERVICES
Director
Applicants must be holders of at least a Masters degree in Hospitality Management. Those with a Masters degree in Public Administration/Business Administration with at least a Diploma in Hospitality related field will also be considered. In addition, applicants must:

  • Have (5) years relevant work experience at a senior position in a large organization preferably in an institution of higher learning or in hospitality industry
  • Demonstrate professional competence and experience in managing catering services
  • Have a track record for integrity in business dealings, administrative leadership and teamwork
  • Be conversant with relevant aspects of Information Technology.

Duties will include:

  • Planning, developing and implementing strategies and procedures for efficient provision of catering services.
  • Heading and supervising staff engaged in offering services to a large population of students
  • Ensuring that university facilities comprising restaurants, and students dining hall are well managed and efficiently utilized.
  • Putting measures in place to ensure that income generating outlets in catering areas are efficiently and profitably run.
  • Prepare and control the catering services budget and make periodical sales analysis and reports.
  • Organize the catering aspect of University functions and events e.g. graduation ceremony.

Chef - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE C (plain) and above. They must have professional qualification of a Diploma Course in Food Production from a recognized Institution. In addition they must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a four (4) Star Hotel environment also have held the position of a chef de partie for not less than two years.

Restaurant/Conference Headwaiter – Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE C (plain) and above. They must have professional qualification of a Diploma in Food and Beverage Sales and Service. In addition, they must have five (5) years relevant work experience in a busy four (4) Star Hotel environment. They must also demonstrate
fluency in English and Kiswahili.

Kitchen Unit Supervisor – Grade C/D (Kitui Campus)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE C (plain) and above. They must have a Diploma in Institutional/Hotel/Hospitality Management or Advanced Certificate in Food and Beverage Production/Processing or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. I addition they must have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy hotel kitchen and be computer literate

Cateress/Caterer - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of Higher National Diploma in Hospitality Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant should have at least five (5) years relevant working experience in an institution of higher learning.

Senior Cook - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ (plus) and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of Diploma in Food and Production/Processing or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant should have at least five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy three (3) Star Hotel environment.

House Keeper – Grade A/B (Kitui/City Campuses)
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of a Diploma in Institutional Management or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant must:

  • Have at least three (3) years post qualification experience
  • Be a person of high integrity
  • Be computer literate.

Baker – Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of a Diploma in Baking Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant should have at least five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy bakery environment.

Confectioner – Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of a Diploma in Baking Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. In addition the applicant should have at least five (5) years relevant working experience in a busy five (5) star restaurant doing different varieties of cakes and pastries.

Ability to demonstrate leadership skills will be an added advantage.

Waiter/Waitress - Grade III/IV
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division IV or KCSE mean Grade D+ (plus) and above. They must have a professional qualification of a Certificate or Diploma Course in Food and Beverage Services from a recognized Institution. In addition, they must have at least three (3) years relevant work experience in Food and Beverage Service from a four (4) Star Hotel/Restaurant.

Applicants must be holders of Master’s degree in the relevant field from a recognized university. In addition, the applicant must show evidence of teaching experience at university level.

In addition applicants must:-

  • Have at least three (3) year teaching experience
  • Be prepared to pursue PhD degree in the area of specialization
  • Be competent in any of the following music areas; Music Performance (Piano/Voice), Theory and Composition, African Music, and Musicology.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach and pursue PhD degree in the relevant field.

Senior Studio Technician - Grade E/F
Applicants must be holders of a Higher National Diploma in the relevant field or its equivalent from a recognized institution. In addition the candidates must:

  • Have a minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in the music industry.
  • Have proficiency on all studio production software and hardware
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision

The successful candidate will be expected to oversee and manage the university’s busy studio program, including overseeing and managing the recording studio, controlling the recording sessions and supervising the entire process through mixing and mastering.

DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS
Technician – Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (Plain) and above. In addition, the applicant must have a Diploma in Textile Technology or equivalent from a recognized institution. They must have at least three (3) years relevant experience in busy textile studio, firm or a teaching institution.

DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE ARTS
Technician – Grade C/D (Mombasa Campus)
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelors degree from any recognized University. Candidates with a Higher National Diploma in Technical Operation from KIMC or any recognized institution will also be considered. In addition, the applicants must have at least three (3) years experience as Technical operator or equivalent in a reputable organization and be computer literate.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Operation of Visual and Sound equipment in the Department.

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY
Lecturer
Applicants must be holders of a PhD degree in the relevant area from a recognized university. Holders of a first degree in Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) with a Masters degree in a relevant medical discipline will be considered. They should be able to teach courses in Chemical Pathology and Anatomical Pathology.

In addition the applicants must:

  • Have full time university teaching experience as tutorial fellow or assistant lecturer for at least three (3) years.

Medical Laboratory Technician - Grade C/D

SCHOOL OF APPLIED HUMAN SCIENCES

DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION MANAGEMENT AND EXERCISE SCIENCE

Outdoor Technical Instructor – Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C and above. They must also have a Diploma in Outdoor Technical Training from a reputable institution.
In addition they must have:

  • At least three (3) years experience especially in University students outdoor challenge programs
  • Proficiency in use and maintenance of essential outdoor equipment
  • Ability to facilitate teams through multiple outdoor challenge elements

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Manage various facilities and equipment for ropes courses, climbing walls and initiative games and co-ordinating groups for team-building activities
  • Supervise student groups on outdoor sites and training facilities and equipment.

Applicants with an experience in a sport-related leadership position shall have and added advantage.

GRADUATE SCHOOL

Senior Thesis Editor
Applicants must be holders of a PhD Degree in Journalism, Communication or equivalent qualification from a recognized university. In addition they must have at least three (3) years relevant work experience preferably in an institution of higher learning.

Those with a Master’s Degree in the relevant field with at least five (5) years work experience may also be considered.

They must be able to demonstrate administrative and professional competence in editorial work and must be conversant with relevant aspects of information Technology such as desktop publishing.

  • Have successfully supervised at least four (4) Masters students or two (2) PhD students since being appointed Senior Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of continuing research including having published at least four (4) articles in refereed journals since being appointed Senior Lecturer.
  • Show evidence of attendance and contribution at learned Conferences, Seminars or workshops.
  • Show evidence of active participation in departmental activities and good quality teaching.
  • Evidence of successfully applying for a grant either individually or as a group since being appointed as a senior lecturer

Applicants must be holders of a Master’s degree in the relevant area from a recognized university. In addition they must be holders of a Bachelor Degree of at least Upper Second Class or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Possession of a relevant professional qualification and or having been registered for a PhD will be an added advantage.

Technician - Grade C/D
Applicants must be holders of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in the relevant area or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

In addition, applicants must:-

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a busy Laboratory as a Technician
  • Have knowledge of draughfting, cadastral analysis, other design softwares, spatial modeling and conversant with modern qualitative and quantitative computer based statistical analysis packages
  • Knowledge of computer applications including CAD will be an added advantage

The successful candidate will be involved in planning, preparing and implementing practical/laboratory exercises for undergraduate and postgraduate students

Studio Assistant - Grade A/B
Applicants must be holders of KCE Division III or KCSE mean Grade C (plain) and above. They must have a minimum professional qualification of a Diploma in Environmental Planning and Management or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.

In addition the applicant must:

  • Be computer literate
  • Those with computer aided design (CAD) or other design softwares will have an added advantage

CENTRE FOR INSTITUTIONAL BASED PROGRAMMES

Systems Administrator
Applicants must be holders of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT)/Computer Science or its equivalent with at least three years experience as a systems and E-learning, specifically Moodle administration and development in a University or large organization. In addition the candidates must:

  • Have Windows server, 2003, 2005 and 2008, exchange server configurations, administration and trouble shooting, DNS Configuration and administration with active directory, knowledge and experience with PHP, Apache Server, Ajax, Perl or any Web Development tools, Knowledge and experience with MySQL, Oracle servers administration or any RDBM, IT projects management and development of IT Policies and strategies.
  • Have thorough knowledge of ERP environment and administration such as Microsoft Dynamics Navision, Network Administration, Configuration and support with thorough knowledge of TCP/IP protocol and LAN/WLAN/WAN, Develop and support of University College Website and Internet to include WEBCT, Value added Networks such as SMS services, Development and maintain Module–learning platform, e-library resource database resource center, e-based results release and e-communication on web based platform, Development a disaster recovery and remote data backup solutions and strategy for the University College.
  • Provide operational and administrative ICT support for the University, Designing and development of web based research databases, Research database administration, Responsible for the direct management of Institutional data and databases, organizational storage, archiving, data mining, data warehouse, and dissemination of Institutional data, Development of web based online survey tool and Monitoring and evaluation of Institutional ICT projects.

Candidates with good interpersonal communication skills, team players and innovative leadership will have added advantage.

Web Developer
Applicants must be holders of a Diploma in Information Technology (IT)/Computer Science, Soft Ware Engineering or related field. In addition the candidates must:

  • Have two (2) years relevant experience.
  • Successful candidates will be expected to develop customize and manage E-Learning Platform Moodle using PHP, MySQL and other commonly used we development tools.
  • Experience in handling E-learning systems in a large institution of higher learning will be a clear added advantage.

Terms of Service:
Terms of service for teaching posts of lecturers and above are on permanent and pensionable basis and include membership to a pension scheme, a generous medical scheme, housing allowance and commuting allowance. Other posts will be on performance based two (2) year renewable contract plus gratuity at the end of the contract, a generous medical scheme, housing allowance and commuting allowance.
